Battleboard suggestions

I like the battleboards, but if they could be smaller. I heard many people complain about the fact that boards were 1/2 sheet of paper. So if it can be looked at and see if it could be made smaller?

They could always tear away the part that they don't need. Taking the blank part with them for scrap IG or leave it at logs for scrap.

I argued the same thing when it came to craftsman section on my CC. It was a waist of space for me. I just used it as scrap. It was funny when scholars would look at me funny when they couldn't find paper and I had it so quickly.

we are not saying connect the character data base with the magic items one we are saying connect the magic items cards only with the magic items data base there for when you go to check in and have to show your magic items tags anyhow the logistics staff just looks up the # and hits print for the magic item battle board tag from there magic items database that way no mater what player has the items it can be looked up and the data already generated and ready to print.

...which wouldn't work in a chapter (like HQ) where the logistics staff does not manage or have access to the MI database.

And Matt or Christina can correct me, but I do not think the magic item database falls under the scope of the Alliance Logistics Committee (who updates the player/character database)

There are a few reasons why we decided not to do battleboard type magic item tags.

1) It would require another computer and staff member with access to the MI database to be at logistics, where depending on what the chapter had they would have to pass back and forth the printer connection, or even 1 computer that needs to be swapped back and forth between 2 people.

2) It creates another bottleneck, instead of having multiple staff members being able to check items and write on tags what they are you are now limited to 1 person checking and printing tags. This process is already done with the battleboard so you don't want to multiply it for the bigger chapters. Pulling tags for magic items seem to take the most time at logistics so to us this seemed the fastest way to get people in and out of logistics.

When we created the new MI tags as it currently stands, we decided this method would be the fastest. Everyone on the ALC has or does run logistics and are familiar with the process. It saves time on all the different tags that need to be printed, so no more running out of a specific type of spell and having to print and cut them during logistics.

Love the battleboards. However, I tend to make my own battleboard on the other side of the sheet with my MI charges. I'd love to see all the effects of one item be on one tag, instead of different tags for different effects on the item. If the item is handed over, it's singular tag is passed over as well.

I'd much rather look into a system like this where we could design a tag that would, for the most part, allow items to only require a single tag

Magic item databases are separate from chapter to chapter. If someone tried to use items from more than one chapter at a time, your proposal would leave them unable to do so.

So what Auric said, yes.

You are right I could just cut off the parts I dont need...but here is the thing...one of the ideas was to stop "wasting" so much paper...there is still a bit of paper wasted here...or at least to me...day 1 , full on one side of paper...day 2 only 1/2 of one side....

When people pre-reg and Pre-log...could the Log peeps print double sided for day 1? Character sheet on 1 side battle board on the other, this way you get 2 people on 1 sheet of paper...day 2 print 2 people per sheet...you still have the backside empty but its alot better than before...??

Considering that we only get, what, 12 tags out of a sheet of cardstock? Hard to not save at least some paper.

Quite a few more than 12 actually.

The point still stands though... my main issue with our character cards, battle boards and even monster cards to some degree is that there is a lot of wasted space. I wish there was a way to fix that.

Just to throw it out there, "wasted space" is a pretty essential part of any design if you want people to be able to quickly read and comprehend it. One of the first things you learn with desktop publishing is that the white space is just as important as the rest of the piece. I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement, but reducing/removing all blank spaces from any piece usually ends up being a mistake.

The primary reason behind the move, rather than paper savings (although that's a nice benefit, too!), was the time it takes logistics to prepare for an average event using a tag system. It was heinous. And awful. And made babies cry. This new system significantly reduces the time logistics teams have to spend pulling and sorting tags. It's not perfect, and we'll hone it as it gets used and continue making improvements, but overall I applaud this move and think it will have a very positive impact on the volunteers that have braved paper cuts and permanently crossed eyes to provide the rest of us with the foundational pieces to have a good time at events.

I saw a reduction from 6 to 8 man hours down to 2 man hours to do pre-reg for our event. My stomach thought this was a splendid development.
