Character Rewrite and what makes a weapon magical

Any way how would the rules work on a ranged melee attack. Such as a large rock attached to a rope.

No flexible weapons. The rope is a safety hazard. It could catch weapons, get wrapped around someones neck, trip someone. Having a rope attached will get the thrown weapon to fail weapon check.

That is what I thought but the idea had popped into my head.
