How much of a claw's minimum of 28 inches must extend beyond the knuckle of the hand it's attached to? It seems like a weapon with a 28 inch length and no gripping surface, mounting only at its base, would be extremely fragile and completely unreliable in combat.
I'm really hoping a significant portion of it's length can be secured to the back of the hand or forearm, otherwise it doesn't seem like a claw could even survive being used in a strike, not to mention a block. I'd guess that about a third of the total length would need to be mounted to make a claw stable.
Regarding construction materials, would latex around a 3/8" or 1/4" fiberglass core be acceptable for claws?
