That sorta looks like Kanye West from the back.

I didn't know the Joker was a socialist. No wonder he hates Batman, as Bruce Wayne is the ultimate capitalist.

/threadjack While I see your point Scott. I'd have to call Lex Luthor the "ultimate" capitalist in the DC universe. Wayne Enterprises' health care plan is likely very generous and he's been known to waste money on silly things like Quakeproofing his Gotham skyscrapers. I mean seriously, how likely is it that an earthquake will ever hit Gotham?
And the Joker isn't a socialist, he's a sociopath. If I had to assign a political party to the Joker I'd call him a Libertarian. He's against taxation and strongly disagrees with the government telling him how he should run his own life and household.
Next election I'm voting for Harvey Dent, a man who I feel stands for TRUE bipartisanship.

Well, the cartoon above has a picture of the joker with the caption "socialist". So I was asking.

In regards to making money through capitalism, I think Lex and Bruce are pretty equal. As far as how they spend it, well...

I guess it all depends on your definition of ultimate capitalist. I see them as someone who makes lots and lots of money and then spend it how they see fit. Bruce takes care of his employees and keeps them safe. He buys rocket cars and grappling hooks. Lex shoots his employees, even if they're not sick. He buys kryptonite and probably hookers. They both excel at capitalism though.

Point well made. "Capitalist" has of late become a word with a slight negative connotation due to the current Wall st woes. My comments included that connotation and yours did not. This does not invalidate your view, though I must point out that Bruce Wayne DOES own Kryptonite and spends lavish amounts on money on Chippies and Starlets, though the jury is out on if he's actually paying for nookie. I'd characterize Bruce as a romanticized capitalist and Lex as an exaggerated stereotype of the "Mercenary" captialist. Can we agree on this?

ps- "Lex shoots his employees, even if they're not sick." Funniest thing I've read all week.

pps- Thank you for the calm and rational discourse on this heated topic.

I think we're on the same page.

Romanticized Capitalist...I like that. I think I want to be one, but without spending money on starlets and chippies, I got one of those and she's enough for me. Then again, I don't need the cover of "millionaire playboy" like Brucie does.

Of course following the money for both is kidna similar in some respects. Both funnel insaine amounts of cash into "secret" projects (be they death rays (lex) or batarangs (wayne)). Both maintain an alternate external image to throw people off, lex as the hardcore busnessman, wayne as the skirt chasing philanthropist. Both own kryptonite, and honastly its for the exact same reason: If Kent gets too uppity, someone has to be ready for it. I figure if Thomas Wayne hadn't gotten gunned down, Wayne enterprises and lex corp would probly have a great deal of joint ventures resulting in who knows what.

Moral of the story: Often the people we disagree with the most are the ones who we see ourselves in. Put aside the differences, and try to work together.

Note: granted lex might need to tone down the employee to gunshot ratio to mantain good relatioins with wayne and wayne might not to stop (at least apearing like) being a whore, but isnt that what crossing lines and working together is about?

I'm going to use my newfound status as a romaticized capitalist to derail every political thread posted on the Alliance Boards and turn it into talk of:

A) Superheroes
2) Star Wars
3) Sporks
5) Roller Derby

I have found my life long mission. Woohoo!

Lol, while I agree this is a worthy goal we actually DID keep the thread fairly on topic while still managing to geek out.

Just something I threw together for my own amusement:

For those not able to recognize saints by sight (i.e. most of us, myself included), these are Saint Sampson the Hospitable and Saint Basil the Great, respectively. Saint Sampson, in particular, is noted for, after having been the only physician to be able to cure the Byzantine emperor of the time and being offered anything that he wished, building the largest free clinic in the world, which stood for over half a millenium, serving the widows, travelers, and poor folk alike. Saint Basil ripped into politicians for failing to serve the people, and built a monumental hospital for the poor as well.

Thank goodness they weren't up for Sainthood in modern times... I'd hate to be at those town hall meetings!

To be honest the main gripe with people crying communist is that the "communists" want more govt control, not more constraints on how people spend thier money, though that plays into it.

Ned Flanders for President!
