Favorite Moments and Event Feedback - September Edition 2018

I really have so many. I honestly went into this event pretty convinced that I was not going to have a good time, and I am happy I was wrong.

*Storytime with Jinn. Alis will never admit it, and she HATED the subject matter, but Jinn plays himself so well. :p
*Feeling like my character finally has a place and a direction in the political labyrinth of Acarthia and getting to actually utilize all the hard work she's done to make connections and changes and get things done!
*Subsequently, the conversation with Thaddeus Blaine.
*King Rockus the Benevolent and Shiny.
*Roleplay with Nytillit, even at 3 in the morning.
*Getting to nerd out over Valarion lore and history with Arlen, and bring him into the Scion fold, somewhat. I'm excited to try to make that official!
*Managing to surprise Kendrick, who until this gather, had no idea Alis was capable of tact, politics and polite negotiations.
*The Knight trials of Noah and Kendrick. I rarely attend court because Alis really dislikes it, but it was fun to hear what everyone said, surmise what everyone -didn't- say, and support family members in this important life moment.
*The exact moment when Alis made the decision of how she actually feels about Sandro. Poor Sandro.

If I think of more, I'll add them.

Seeing Kumari again, we always have personal plot running between a few of our chapter mates, and seeing them again was something Jinn needed

Seeing all my New Acarthia friends again! Sorry for being so abrupt when I first got there... I was a Mystic on a mission

Getting involved in the orc story line!! Helping (hopefully) the slaves and eliminating the orcs was a great time, and very fulfilling! It allowed me to connect with more of the MWE's I hadn't before

Secrets and Feats! Best game ever

The book and Sandro's deep deep crimson face!

My poor cabin getting trapped 3 times! Why hobgoblins why?? we were just visiting. But the sense of danger allowed me to ask for a cute escort to my cabin in the form of Rory multiple times, so I wasn't complaining :p

The big orc fight on Saturday. I got to bring out a little bit of home Jinn and how intense he can get, and I loved it. Also the mad sprint to my cabin to get the dispel scrolls. I love a good run through the woods when lives are on the line! I'm glad I was able to help out in the ways I could, and always will when I'm there.

Just how awesome everyone is. You are all so much fun to roleplay with, and I really enjoy my time while I'm down there. I had Sir Darius filling me in on the dangers, and people making sure I knew when to bow do I didn't get into danger, and many people genuinely interested on how our government works back home. I don't know much of the story that is going on but never felt alone or outside of anything, I always had someone to talk to and rp with and have a good time with, and for that I thank you!

  • Doing all of the rangings to get all of the information for the various field battles
  • Keeper/Wizard interactions
  • Turning slavers into fine/finer pink mist! Doing all of the preparation for that, and coordination with various folks around town was amazing! A huge shout out to plot for being accommodating for letting us follow through with the idea, and then to stream line the process so there was minimal hold at the start of the battle.
  • Record keeping the paladin trials
  • Some good post bardic loss recovery with Zakar
  • Giving Kumori and Jinn a dramatic reenactment of Bella Donnas tale Sunday morning
  • All of the feels around dealing with Amog. Everyone who was involved in these scenes were amazing
  • Talking theory with Belswin on why charms are bad
  • Talking with Bluwolf up on the hill and some minor shaming of subjugating sentient golems

  • Bria Roberts pre-regging to NPC full-time on Thursday night before the event! She is one of the most helpful NPCs in the world because she is mistress of the art of looking around for something that needs to be done, a problem backstage that needs to be addressed, and she steps forward with, "I saw that _______ needs doing. I have a proposed solution, would you like to hear about it?" That is so incredibly helpful to staff and game organizers, I can't even tell you! THANK YOU, BRIA!
  • Friday night: Trying to explain the craft of mechanics for field battles to Casey, Sierra, and Emily, compared to the movie "Return of the Jedi." (At the end, (1) the Ewoks go on a Rogue mod to disarm the trap that's providing the shield for the Death Star; (2) Luke goes on into a roleplay encounter to distract The Emperor and Darth Vader so they won't appear on the field; (3) There's a huge dogfight out in the stars for everyone else that lasts until encounters 1 & 2 end -- it's the model for all great field battles!) Our young padawans Emily & Sierra were not as familiar with "Return of the Jedi" as I might like -- and Sierra's elder brother, first-time player Ammon Gatrell backed me up on this one! Cracked me up! Ammon was a delight to have backstage -- curious fashion statement with his pants and all! I hope he comes back again!
  • Ulrathi split battle Friday night: Was super nervous that players would react poorly to being voluntold about NPCing in a split -- but everyone was so gracious about it! And really embraced some fun roleplay aspects of the Ulrathi with their insults of "milk drinker" and "weakskin." Thanks for stepping up, Denver players and visitors! And only ONE near death experience on the cliffs of doom off the sides of the road!
  • Paladins Trials: Loved seeing the performance of Rivervale's squires, so proud of them! All the remarks from everybody were really teriffic, and I'm deeply grateful for the support of both players and characters here. Thanks for a few compliments on my own speeches - even strong public speakers still get nervous, and having some affirmation that I did okay means a lot to me!
  • Getting to meet an IG celebrity like Prince Andrew Moorefield in person onstage was super neat, and John nailed that role!
  • Small moment between Vandathron and Baroness Katherine was meaningful in its trust and what was and wasn't said. I always enjoy my roleplay with Ryan, however brief it sometimes may be with my schedule this year!
  • BEST long talk between Noah and Katherine in years -- heart!!
  • Squire Alissayre applies for a job! Loved the sidebar conversations with Vandathron, again - getting Kumari signed up right at the end of this two-year quest, always the hospitality and fineness of detailed roleplay with Juliet as Baroness Elavir! I've so enjoyed the journey of this particular NPC with many PCs touched and involved along the way, and this was a neat wrap-up of this chapter. I hope to make cameos as the character onstage again in the future, and see how that story progresses.
  • "Speedating" quicker conversations than I would've liked before orc field battle #2 began, introducing the enigmatic Baroness Laura Coldstone - whom I think is the single most mysterious and perhaps complex character in the entire World of Acarthia. I hope I managed to do such a complicated role justice onstage! Enjoyed handling some hard hitting questions from PCs, and the different flavor in which they were presented from the very delicate and cagey to the extremely forthright. I'd like to keep my cards close to my chest and not name PC names here -- but know that I enjoyed every one of those PC interactions, and a few of you in particular very much!
  • Bria, and John Fawkes reprising their roles as representatives from a certain lawfirm out of Old Town. These characters give me such glee when they're onstage! And these actors play these roles so beautifully; I am grateful to them for bringing these creations to life!
  • Ulrathi orcs return, Revenge of Amog Ironfist! As I watched the battle progress, I reflected that the creation of the Ulrathi orcs is truly a collaborative team effort of so many individual writers on Team Daedalus! Our best work is when we brainstorm and create and present in symphony like this. The Ulrathi are the brainchild of Vincent, who named them, who dreamed them, and gave their initial flavor. I picked up the theme and worked out some of the mechanics and the write-ups and communications to integrate them into the world of the Howling Woods. You may have heard of them only recently... but you also might have heard of them as early as the start of 2017, when we began dropping hints about how they were moving closer to New Acarthia. John created Amog Ironfist, his crown, and its history and properties, which expanded this story into the larger world of our campaign, and made these more than just tonight's orc menace. (Also, I super enjoyed that despite that he's a great villain, and entertaining, and might have been fun to kick down the road and hate a bit longer -- He gave us the chance to show that even NPCs suffer from our game world's curse about difficulty with resurrection. When Amog's number was up, that was the end for poor Amog!) Darrin has consulted on some of the mechanics for tribe fights, and had we presented an August event, he would've had a much larger role in their onstage presentation, but his touch is still upon them. Then Paul is the one who literally gives them voice, briefs our NPCs, presents the strength of their flavor onstage -- and his work with the Ulrathi slaves, their slave names, personalities, backstories, and potential futures has been emotional and inspired. I hope everyone has loved to hate them so far, and continues to fight the good fight into 2019!
Thank you for your patience through the event as we were down 3 members of Plot, and Jeff had himself cloned for the occassion to be in several places at once to make up for that. It's always such a privlege to get to present the stories and settings of Acarthia to you. I count myself very lucky to be in the position of storyteller amongst you.

I knew going into this gather it was going to rough for me but I had a fantastic time. I was in Hawaii for a work trip presenting before the 9-1-1 board during a hurricane so I was under a lot pressure at work. Then I took the red eye home and left directly from the airport to come to game. But thanks to this great game all the stressed melted away when I got into character (only to return soon enough for the tournament).

  • Getting to site and hearing the Friday field battle already underway. Then waiting in the Tavern with lovely people until the town returned.
  • Emeric immediately dropping treasure bag from the above battle in my lap. I truely love doing treasure bag.
  • MG meeting and Surprise!!! you’re in charge. Turns out I liked it and am now applying to be assistant GM so Aneira/Bria can have a well-deserved rest.
  • MG mods are always so much fun. These quirky awesome people that peer into the stars and say to themselves, "Well I can control the fundamental forces of the shard" are crazy but they are my kind of crazy.
  • Participating in other people’s personal plot and watching the fun.
  • Adding Ember and Fynn to RV snackie time
  • RV Snackie Time
  • Good night Trace kisses
  • Seeing Noah and Kendrick get their just deserts.
  • Cynder's new outfit
  • Tournament!! Will, Nissa, Mike, Leora, Izzy and Jeff, Jenn worked their butts off pre working on every detail of the tournament. They deserve most the credit for it going so smoothly.
  • Lord Osiris
  • Sir Cookie and Kendrick were so happy to just be on the show for the tournament.
  • Seeing the Duchess again I miss her.
  • Staying on time and never behind on the tournament. (mostly).
  • Morningtide throwing me under the bus about my outfits even though he had no idea. But he gave me a great idea for next year.
  • Lore time - I love being the town celestial ritualist. Always a tons of plot. However, I am getting the feeling that Plot is trying to drive Belswin insane.
  • Excellent RP with Brooke, Molly, Darius, Van, Morningtide, and Arikaya
  • Paul SR always does such a great job with his NPCs and I love his positive attitude.
  • I was done that point and headed to bed. Then I heard Kendrick say Belswin has Treasure bag and I dusted myself off and went to do battle with Loot Split
  • FINE RED MIST. Yssenia and all the trappers who kept our town safe thank you so much!!!!! Plot well done keeping the battle rolling.
  • Elavir has the behind the line action taken care off. Every time I turned to see if somebody was ok She knew what was going on. She is a professional as well as awesomely dressed.
  • Kendrik's yelling and being a drama queen saving Belswin life
  • AWESOME RP encounter with Darius, Jessie, and John that turned into a life and death encounter.
  • Yes plot is trying to drive Belswin insane.
  • Team Ritual go. I was supper impressed by Darius ritual to destroy the town. I will be stealing many many elements.
  • So many Purifies and Dispels needed and the town having our back.
  • Belswin seeing Darius take a death and going well maybe being possessed by the outsider isn't so bad. Belswin is a confirmed coward and I love it.
  • Darius giving Belswin the talk again. I love any chance I get to RP with Darius, Mac does an amazing job giving us the freedom to be who we are but yet still holding us accountable for our actions. It can't be easy to run a team of such diverse strong willed people but we wouldn't be a team without him
  • Going insane while still doing treasure bag. So much fun.
  • Jinn and Sandro oh my!!! Jinn read was masterful and Bella Donna did another amazing job.
  • Watching Van/Ryan come into their own and knowing he has got it. I am a proud master.
  • RV snackie time with so many cool guests.
  • Great Sunday morning conversations but I always enjoy Yssenia and Markov topics and discussion.
Thank you to everybody. ~Shane

  • First Ulrathi fight was a confusing, disorienting, fun mess.
  • Surprise Markov plot during Healer's Guild meeting, and people having his back during it.
  • Becoming a makeshift Wall of Force during Doomwing Deck mod via Sanctuary.
  • Judging events! Bardic judging was new and hard because I'm not a performer and don't normally think about performances that way.
  • Teaching Owen new lockpicking techniques and lying about Tang being invented by the New Acarthian Science Association for their Moon Portal expeditions.
  • Coming in dead last (i.e., 2nd) at Crafting. I'm glad everyone found the clock useful!
  • More Bella Donna readings!

-Running mods for folks all day Saturday.
-Getting to play a backpacker healer for my Ulrathi brethren. When Amog was defeated, I was able to life him while he was being carried by Kendrick and then hit him with two cure mortals and redo his protectives.
-Getting my *** kicked by Ember's arrows in same role. :)
