GAMEDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to hear fro YOU!!!!!!!!

Kauss

Fighter
Ok, here we have it, the chance for YOU to speak up about what YOU want in gamedays. I don’t care if you normally don’t attend them, I don’t care if your not local, I don’t even care if your a staff just getting a word in, tell me what you like in a gameday, what you would want to see.

No matter how normal, or how crazy the idea. If its something you don’t want others to know about you, PM me and I will anon tell staff so that no one knows you want a chance to be the crazed tuba hunter of andar.

A few ground rules.
1) No suggestions about ooc location for the gameday, send that through normal channels.
2)No saying anything about No gamedays or do we really need gamedays. Make your own thread for that please.
3)Keep in mind I want to read what you have to say, but no promises. I would love to do an all boat gameday, (for example) but unless I cut some corners I am not taking everyone out on a boat.
4)This is brainstorming, so no shooting down others ideas except for purely rule reasons. (Like someone making an incorrect rule presumption that would change the arc of the idea.)

Ok have at it.

Currently, I feel no attachments to the plots, game day OR event. In fact, I have been attending events to hang out with people more than actually play the game. There are, in fact, a couple plot lines that have been going that I despise so much that I've been completely avoiding them.

If the plots were more engaging to my character, I would be more inclined to attend game days.

What kind of plots? race orented plot, class, things that take your backstory into account? I understand what you mean, but I want more detail:).

Yes.

Currently, I feel no attachment to the world, really, despite having written and submitted a background. I have a story with elements that can be utilized; however, none have.

The plots that have existed have largely been someone's big vision and nothing to really build a community of characters. Just big bads to go smack or avoid. I get that from computer games for a significantly smaller fee.

There's also no racial packet for me to be able to try to request any racial plot from... or at least, there hasn't been the last several times that I've checked.

Any efforts I've made to discuss developing any of this with plot have gotten a "that sounds cool... let me see what I come up with," and then nothing ever comes of it.

I've already expressed these frustrations before. That nothing's come of it has caused a severe disinterest in the game.

For me, gamedays need more mystery. Often times I feel like gamedays are very one dimensional. You get there. Some NPC comes to you with a very straightforward problem which is almost always solved by killing. There are a few combats. And then the gameday is over.

I like problems that have multiple steps and challenges beyond a monster with bigger stats. One main theme is great, but can still include a variety of different types of encounters.

More traps, locks, and puzzles.

Gamedays are also a great time to put out small amounts of personal plot. There are alot less players, so it is a little easier to focus on the individuals. That being said, the players must keep in mind this is very hard to do, if plot does not know you will be there until the day or two before the event.

Longer gamedays (this is more a logistical thing, but one of the reason I don't go to gamedays is because they are so short)

Those are a feww of my thoughts.

More people. ;)

I've been to both game days that have happened since I started playing, and nothing happened at either of them because there weren't enough people to do anything. I suppose that would work out if we could figure out some type of gameday plot that only needed one or two PCs and one or two NPCs... maybe we need to have a market day with a freebie something for anyone who shows up. ^_^

Ive been at a game where I was one of two PC's we still ran the game and it was allot of fun. It was a huge challenge though since I was a rouge and my companion was a simple blacksmith and we were facing six NPC's. I think four people is the absolute min required to run a game two PC's two NPC's. As far as what I would like to see in a game day I have to agree with Holly More traps, more locks, more mystery.

If I'm playing as a PC at the gameday I would like an IG reason for my character to be there rather then "you happen to be walking along ... "

Since my character is somewhat of a homebody and really only wants to come out for books and booze that doesn't leave many IG options. :)

"Damnit! Giant rats in my wine cellar again! Where's my boom-stick?"

Battledays -
Find a location that has lots of land and little to no non-participant traffic, and start setting up representational battles. Requires many participants to pull off right, though. For each scenario, players are assigned character cards (And monster cards where appropriate) to use for enacted combats that represent actual events on the/a war front.

It's less roleplay and more combat than some people want, but it's a light-hearted day that simultaneously allows players to get a sense of the world at large, and lets people try out new things. The results should be reported during an event with in-game context and effects.

Scenarios:
CTF - This represents capturing key items: supply line schedules, reinforcement plans, etc. You could even stick the flag in a locked box or such to encourage legerdemain or such. Define a time-limit to establish success or failure.
Bunker defense - Define a specific area as the "bunker". The opposition force is attempting to enter the bunker and achieve some specific goal: throw down a circle, eliminate the defense, etc. This represents capturing key locations. Define a time limit to achieve success or failure.
Caravan - use two or three small dome tents. Each tent must be carried by two players to be moved. The carriers can put down the tent to defend it, but may not use combat skills while moving it. Success/failure is defined by making it from point A to point B in a defined period of time. This represents needed supplies, etc. reaching their goals.
VIP escort - One player is a dignitary with minimal stats, the rest are assigned appropriate cards. Op-for is given unlimited respawns. Success/failure is defined by reaching a destination point.
Recon - small team must identify the number and type of opposition within a large expanse of area without detection. They are assigned a limited number of amnesias to cover their tracks. Varying levels of success possible.

The key things you need are bodies and space. Playing this over a couple of acres isn't going to yield a challenging and expansive day. Playing it over a couple dozen acres but with only six players won't be much fun either.

Other than that, I only play game days if I'm bored or need to wrap something up. The way someone could change that for me is to run game days as if they were events: have a whole passel of PCs and NPCs in a dedicated location doing things. Low turnout, low standards, and constant interruption from mundanes is a turn-off for me.

There is alot more going on out there than just, "Smash the big guy" plots. You have to look for them. All of the plots that have been writen are done so to bring the PC base together and work as a team but because certain characters don't mesh well with others they tend to hide information or give misinformation, this is going to happen no matter what. Its not a perfect game. As far as race packets, we are working on them however there is only a couple of us that feel comfortable writing them and haveing 2-3 people write 13+ race packets will take time. Yes we are going to bring plot to people but not all of the plot. If you want it then go find it because it is there. I know of at least 3 PC's that have or are doing that right now.

You will note that I said "have largely been" not that they have *entirely* been. I have heard of some of the smaller plots; I haven't gotten to participate in them.

Telling me the same rhetoric that is told to anyone who actually voices complaints when asked is a) a good way to push me into the realm of impolite and b) a good way to make sure you don't get answers the next time you ask.

How about, instead of trying to refute what I had to say, since I CLEARLY have the opinions I do for a REASON, you analyze what I DID say, and work on fixing what you reasonably can?

Re: race packets... if they're such a burden to write, why don't you outsource the work? I've offered to write the sarr packet no less than 3 times myself to various plot members and have gotten told the above.

When I started Diera, I got told there was no race packet. So I just wrote her history. Then, a year later, I got questioned about it because it didn't mesh with the history of the race locally. I was pissed. Once again, I made a character well over a year ago and had to write a history for her with no race packet. Is the same thing going to happen again?

Phil asked a question. I answered Phil's question. Would you like to ask a question, Brewer?

I actually appreciated your input, Sarah. It got me to thinking and realizing that we do have some holes in our plots which need some filling in. Personal plots are somewhat lacking as it is now, and there are the smaller plots (which, as you mentioned, you have not been able to participate in).

This past game day was advertised as one for personal mods as well as a game day. I would urge you and everyone else who is looking to get more involved or to seek out or advance personal goals to come to the game days to talk to plot directly about things you are trying to do. It's a great opportunity for downtime actions.

The call for "What do your characters do between games" was intended to give plot some insight as to what would (feasibly) get characters together on a game day, at other locations, etc. But I tried not to phrase things that transparently.

So, there it is. We're still accepting the "What do you do" write-ups, but I don't believe goblin stamps are being awarded for them at this point. Just, you know, potential for plot for you, maybe, if you don't write things up in a bad-like way.

That is good information to hear, Dave, Brad. I will look into that.

As I said, if you send me the info anon I will post it for you(well unless your asking me to post no no kinda things) so here is one.

"Why I dont attend gamedays

My faith in the game as a whole has dwindled drastically over the last 2 years in regards to the quality of the game and as a whole I don't find a good reason to support this game.

With that said the problem with gamedays in general is that they are through away encounters. In the past with the exception of Phils Fell Gamedays, the gamedays have had NOTHING to do with any plot going on and were (perceived to be) treated by plot as something that they "had" to do instead of something they wanted to do. Perhaps if the mindset of the staff changes we can step in the right direction.

Secondly, there is NO REASON why the majority of us who show up for gamedays should for any reason be caught hanging out and ready to act to help E Random peasent who comes into town for any reason. If plot can be creative and think of innovative ways to get us in the same place for something then perhaps that is another step in the right direction.

At the moment gamedays are a waste of time and money. For those of us who do show up there are no healers (and YES that makes a difference) and generally more NPCS then PCS.

My recommendations: plot should target key players who can or do show up for gamedays. What I mean by this is set up an encounter that they know about ahead of time (like someone comes into town and makes an appointment to meet with X character). Plot should verbally and clearly articulate that characters who are not currently in the crossroads should attend because ___(insert answer here)___ and lastly showing to the player base that gamedays are not going to be a waste of our time by being on time & not treating gamedays like the bastard child of Alliance Seattle. You plot needs to make it lucrative to get players. Nobody likes wasting money, especially right now."

Also a reminder, Try not to shoot down ideas, or jump on people for what they have said/view. I am asking this so I can get answers to some questions I have. If you want to take and explane X,Y,Z about someone post, how its wrong or how Z is actally whats going on, thats all well and good, just make a new thread so that no one gets driven away from answering here. With that said

3...2...1... game on.

With Gamedays there great to get new people started i started at a gameday to were i was lvl 2 and had 1 claw. it was fun but as i contenued to go to gamedays they seemed to drift off and not be there Renner and I have gone to every gameday since last year a bit after sept.. yes i never was able to hurt anything because the people that did show were realy high lvl but they helped me do things and showed me what i was doing wrong and when i whent to my first event i didnt feel lost or like a fool besides casting sacuary and hold the sign for desicrate were solomen told me he would kill me if i ever did it again lmao but it helped me learn and i wish there were still people that are able to go like when i first started. insted of me and renner (the spider pack) being the only ones that go... or if we show up and then find out it was canceled but no one knew it was..
