I personaly gave the event a C+ but I think I should of changed it to a B-. The Auction was a bit of a let down and there was a lot of down time. What saved it was the unscaled incounter in the woods on sat night and the last fight on Sunday.

I gave it a B.

I missed Friday night, so it might have gotten a higher/lower grade if I had been there for that.

Bill was great as the hobling ambassador.

PCs were great, as is pretty standard for an Alliance event.

There was a lot of downtime both Saturday afternoon and Saturday after dinner, likely due to lack of NPCs. However, a lot of this time can be filled with interacting with the other PCs.

IMO, it was also a more "laid back" event in game, which was definitely needed after the drama and epicness of the Dominion.

Plotlines were solid and interesting.

The biggest thing I saw was the lack of a big and really cool spectacle or two.

I don't know that I can objectively grade the whole event, because I certainly didn't see everything and do everything, but for the goodly chunk of the event that I saw I'd give an unflinching "A". Top notch plot for me to NPC, top notch fellow NPCs to do it with, and nothing but the best of fun from the players beating me down! Having a crap-ton (like a metric ton, but more impressive!) of armor to peruse and wear helped me really FEEL like a rampaging troll, and having all of those wonderful props and clothes (and even prosthetics) really set off every NPC character. I even got a little bit of leftovers, and they were tasty, so I think I'll be eating on-site next event.

Yep, an unflinching "A" for the bits of the event I saw. NPC camp rocked hardcore.

I gave it a B, and here is why:

Stuff I liked:

That unscaled encounter in the woods was the first time I felt real fear while playing since I came back last year. Granted this is only my 3rd event since then, but even when I was playing all the time back in the day there weren't a ton of events that struck true fear into your heart. It's a really tough thing to do and you guys pulled it off Saturday night. I honestly thought we were all gonna rez. Thank you magic armor & dodges!

The cave mod I went on was fun. Tim & I made it fun by making some type of gas-globe related joke every wave we fought, but the entire encounter was great. It's entertaining going on mods like that.

The new NPCs did a kick *** job. They busted their asses and it showed. They did a good job learning stuff as they played. Hats off to them!

The final wave battle was great. I was happy that they split up into two different pools to split the town up. That makes for more entertaining combat for everyone involved. I was also happy to see Black Forest all working together to take the big bad guy down. Teamwork wins!

Selling food to people. I always love doing this. It gives Perwin a chance to interact with people he might not otherwise take the time to talk to. I love playing with a "businessman first" mentality.

Interacting with Ambassador Berrybucket. I spent a lot of OOG time working on an idea for a business venture. I know he enjoyed sitting there eating free baklava while I talked to him about it. We spoke for 15-20 minutes and it was a great RP opportunity. I even had two pages of notes I was following to make sure I got it all right!

Watching Luigie go crazy on elementals. Perwin didn't really think it was that big of a deal that they were coming into town, but if a BF guy thinks they need to die, than so does he. It was great RP'ing for Luigie (he had great reason to do all that!), even though it may have made some other characters mad that he kept attacking them.

Stuff I think could have been better:

The auction was a downer in terms of items, but I'm sure others would disagree. It's obviously only a downer if they didn't have stuff you were looking for. ;) I was waiting for the auction to warm up with a couple death gas poisons like The Lich's Horde always did, but that's not the only thing I wanted to see.

I didn't really get a feel for the plot during the weekend other than "Dominion is gone and now the trolls are feeling frisky." I don't really have a problem with that, but I just didn't feel like the event had any back story to it. I did try to stay involved with what was going on. I spent time in the tavern talking to people, and I tried to find out what was happening on mods. I guess when you wrap up a very long running plot line an event ago you're just bound to have an event like this where the story isn't as strong.

I said above that I loved the cave mod. The only thing I didn't like was getting teased with a trapped box at the end. I went into uber trap-guy mode only to see that the trap in there wasn't event set. I was really hoping for something complicated and fun to disarm. That's just a personal thing. I know most people hate traps.

The one thing that I believe would have improved the final encounter, or any big wave battle, is if they had 2 or 3 big bad guys instead of just one. Justin did a great job at the end, but it's really hard for a single person to be as dominating as he should when he has all of Black Forest encircling him and smacking him down. Tommy (Luigie) said something really good that I had to agree with. If they had him and like two lesser versions of him it would have made it a lot more challenging. Justin is awesome, but I don't care if Steve Babin was playing that NPC. It's hard to fight a team that works together when it's just you. With that said it was still awesome and fun!

There were some slow points in the day, but I made it fun by selling food & talking to people. Food really is the best way to nullify downtime!

I know everyone wants to grade every event as an A. I also know that some people might think that if it's not an A then that means the event sucked. I don't want to throw A's around like they mean nothing. When I say "B" I'm saying that the event was better than average. It was entertaining and fun, but there were a couple things about it I didn't like as much as I could have.

Bottom line--I had a great weekend and I was glad to have gone. Thanks again, NPC's!

Thanks for the input Gee. How you wrote that is exactly what we hope for when we put these posts up. While it is helpful to just know what we did wrong (and don't get me wrong, I want to know if something sucked even if there's no way to make it better so's I know not to do it again) input on how we can make the experience better definately helps us a lot more.

ps- sorry about the trapped/not trapped box thing, there was no way to remove the mousetrap without harming the box. That was my bad.

I gave the event a C.

I want to say that I love the game that the alliance provides, and that we always want a A grade event. This being the case I know that sometimes a game is not perfect so thing may happen which will cause one event to lull while another is absolutely amazing. So while I may not have enjoyed this event as much as I had hoped, I do not want it to be construed that I am unhappy with the game.

First and foremost thank you so much to all you new NPC's just starting out and learning the millions of intricate rules and nuances of the game. We really can not thank you enough for the hard work you guys put into this event.

The reason I gave the event a C primarily had to do with the amount of downtime during the game. I felt that there was a substantial amount of time where there seemed to be very little going on whether from, fishbowls, crunchies, or battles. I would have especially liked to have seen more fishbowls. I felt there was a lack of RP that did not revolve around the hobling plot. I would have liked to have seen more of a public response to the event prior. NPC's coming in talking about what had transpired and there opinions on the controversy.

That being said, the mods i did go on this event were excellent. The jade farm mod was great. That dwarf was pretty funny and the fighting was pretty good. The expedition into the cave to save the kids and fight the trolls was really really fun. Probably my favorite part of the weekend. The timing was perfect as I had been waiting all Sunday morning to do something like that. I think the stating was also right on. I think we all came out of that mod feeling like the fight was perfectly even matched, definitely not easy and a good challenge, which made me feel pretty cool.

All and all Friday and half of Saturday wasn't the greatest but it picked up during the second logistics period and improved substantially, so i left site feeling pretty good, which is what is important. Thanks to every one for all their hard work.

I gave the event an A.

I had an amazing time. I was proactive, and it paid off often. The plot itself was something that I didn't think I would be interested in, but changed quickly with the whole 'capture the necromancer', which y'know, necromancy + elf = fun plot.

I understand that the lulls happen, but admittedly, given the count of NPCs and the amount of people that jumped fence, I do not feel it was for a lack of response on plot's hand, nor did it have to do with plot dragging their feet. And agreeing with scott, lulls can be filled with PC on PC roleplay, which is something I primarily PC for anyways. I feel that if constant action was happening all the time, I would be more frustrated about getting constantly interrupted for trying to do things with other PCs, but that's just me.

I also feel that the statting for this event was dead on. There were times where I felt challenged, times things were slightly easy, and a whole lot of in the middle 'just right', which is how I feel an event should happen. Not everything should be a walk in the park, or "I'm going to die" every time.

I would like to thank staff for their hard work; knowing that it is never easy when you are very understaffed NPC wise, I think the NPCs and the Staff did an amazing job with what they had to work with.

I also would like to say that the fishbowls were also fantastic, and was glad to see so many go out.

B-

the good:

- statting was dead on
- npcs were high energy, good acting, well costumed, and just hardcore and fun
- bill was top notch as a hobling ambassador
- oozes are challanging and fun to fight
- lots of fun fishbowls
- werewolves f*** stuff up
- PCs creating legal issues
- cypher = yay scholar stuff!!!!!!!!!
- holy terrorist bombing
- healers guild keeps the town well fed

the bad:

- were there any bugbears or broken spear at all?
- was there an overall bad guy of the weekend? it seemed like there was just a bunch of random stuff happening but not really tied together.
- this isn't just me, and i know the standard response of "it's your job to get involved and get on mods" but when the same groups camp the tavern door or bottom of the stone road to snatch up the npcs to go on every mod, it's frustrating. a bunch of the mid lvl players commented to me about the same thing. chapter hoppers who are already more powerful than half the town are on every mod, 2, 3, 4 a weekend.. i didn't go on 1. i don't know if or how hooking mods can be monitored by npc camp but maybe they should be. maybe the npcs that hook should have instructions (some times) looking for specific types of adventurers rather than first one they bump into. i dunno.
- craftsman tracker. this is officially becoming broken in my opinion. so many people have it now and expect it to be an in game skill that i think it's ridiculus. you get paid a gold per day to track things for people? really?

There was a suggestion about trying to make Bartholomew, my hobling tavernkeeper guy, the head of a local "adventuring guild." He'd keep a book of adventuring groups and people and their skills and then when plot hook guy comes into town, he seeks the tavernkeeper who can then say "Ah, that sounds like a perfect task for group X" and who can then try to make sure as many different people get to go on modules as possible.

This will require players to cooperate and sort of "reverse metagame" for the good of all, of course.

Saturday was slow but that is okay because it was really freakin hot. Scaling could have been a little higher on a couple of the fights (or more waves), but again it was really frickin hot out. loved the werewolf fight even though i only caught the tail end of it... more like helped pick up the pieces, hah hah. the ooze plot line is pretty sick, it really bothers my character, but i think that is a good thing.

-Brian

I gave it a B-.

Like I told Toddo, the hobling plot was both surprising and fun. I didn't walk into the weekend expecting to detain Hadley Moonstream and I'm shocked/pleased with the result, both IG and OOG. However, I had no idea what was going on with the other plot and I tried to pay attention. I didn't see where things connected and how, and overall it felt like a scattered "old plot lines ending and new plot lines beginning" thing. While that's understandable and does happen, there was still a disconnect that didn't click for me. I imagine that everyone else might have felt it worse since racial plot always tends to be a little insular and disconnected too, even if that's necessary.

I also didn't feel the APL all weekend. I realize numbers were low in NPC camp, but I didn't feel a single fight that was challenging this weekend; the only thing that came closer to satisfying was the ooze stuff. The werewolf mod sounded awesome (and sounded like a tough fight), but I missed out on that so that one's my bad, but everyone who went on it seemed to have a great time. As a level four character, I should have probably be feeling the APL a lot more than I did and it was dissatisfying in that sense. I know this can partially be blamed on numbers, but I'm just putting it out there anyway.

There were a lot of lulls too, but people have listed that already. The mods and the fishbowls were great, but there were almost no random crunchies except for the troll cave stuff down by the river, which was great fun.

I don't really feel comfortable grading this event. I hurt my knee awhile back and it was acting up again so I didn't get involved in too many things. I had tons of fun roleplaying in the tavern most of the event and am excited about the future MWE plot. I also plan on staying the entire weekend from now on :)

I give an A
I truly Enjoyed the even It is by far my favorite thus far.

The only problem I really have with the events in general is the luls between battles. You can deffinitly time when there's not going to be anything. It's kinda upsetting. I think every one knows when there's not going to be fighting at all and you can go do what ever. I'm a lowbe and I don't get that fear that you all were talking about because I know when I'm able to relax. I know Saturday night at dinner it te perfect time to relax. And i know that Sunday there's about 30-40 minutes where everyone just sits around bored waiting for the wave battle. I understand the whole gotta get everyone ready...but still It's kinda funny every one knows when the breaks are. Just my opinion....

I think this is a very difficult Idea to implement without leaving out those who are not in a group, because I've seen it in the past where plot sends a lot of team specific mods out and the solo players for a whole weekend sat in the taveren starving for something to do while staring at the same other starving faces all weekend.

Well, that would be one of the reasons to have an NPC organize a group. In the past, if a group was ready, they'd grab the module...

But thats just the calm befor the storm. Thats when you should be most worried. When random farmers and townsfolk and animals cant make it through the enemiy lines. (it is also good to feel you can run to the bathroom or for a smoke or the store without missing major stuff).

B for me.

Amazingly low mods with 7 - 8first time NPC's and only a total of 12-14 NPS's total!!!!!!!!!!

Poor rap up to close off the Dominion story. I only saw 2 thing and that was a singal X - slave, and the bit at te squires meeting that i think was part of it, to even mention the finished plot line. No closeure to it at all. (maybe I missed it)

It seemed to have no Cohetion to the weekend othere than the auction and the undead and lich.

Maybe I missed it but felt a little duped about buying plot with gold. The auction was selling of someones stuff thats going to come looking for it?

Amazing times and good divers types of fishbols. Mental people, people wanting duels, Fay in a mirror, drunken soldies...It was something for everyone out of all the mods.

I gave the event a B- based on various different conflicting factors. Honestly sometimes much of my grade for an event doesn't depend on the people running it, and I have a pretty high standard for myself to "try" and be a good player/have a good time so keep that in mind.

Friday night I didn't get IG until 1am even though I got there at about 10pm. However mostly that was just my own frustration at not getting to site until I did, but oh well not much you can do about that. I did have a good time however saying hello to people and re-establishing old contacts since its been a while since I've been able to go to HQ.

Saturday morning I was happy how soon I got into game. But I was disappointed at how late it seemed like the game got running. Now it is also possible that I fell victim to not being able to hang around outside during the day because I wear a lot of costume and makeup, and sitting in the sun is quite frankly very uncomfortable. One thing I sort of wish is that hooks for mods might come into the tavern and RP for 20-30 minutes before figuring out a group of people to help them. I was happy I got to go with one group down to the river and figure out what was wrong with that girl/kill trolls so it wasn't that bad. Although there was a lot of down time I really enjoyed RP with people but favorites on a different thread...

Saturday night the undead wave battle seemed too easy. I didn't even really fight in it because I didn't realize it was the wave, but that might have been me. That leads me to the fact that it seemed like the scaling most of the weekend was really a big low. I fully respect that it was the time for HQ to take a break smashing the PC's but that doesn't mean it can't be at least challenging. So my biggest downer was that I felt unchallenged with regards to the fighting. But big props to all the new NPC's who stepped up to a VERY intense/hard job. Thankyou!

Sunday definitely picked up. Although honestly I was a little disappointed with the last blob fight. I really enjoyed being able to Prison one for the Mages guild, but I was sort of hoping that it was going to be a button fight. Once again it just seemed a little easy. It was good to split up the town but PC's were trying so many different things to clean up the blobs that I sort of wanted it to be something we had to do to actually stop the wave. Ah well.

All in all it was a solid game, and for many reasons I had a VERY good weekend. I'll definitely be back and thanks so much to everyone who made it possible. :)
