No no I am not trying to be a d*ck and I didn't mean it be like that. I understand there just wasn't very many NPCs. It was REALLY hard to get involved if people jumped on it EVERY time. I am sorry I am not good at explaining things. You put it in words I couldn't. There were other reasons why the event was ruined for me but not being involved was just something I felt odd about.

I might add I have a disability, and in this game it's REALLY REALLY hard to understand what is going on. I can't hear when someone says things and aren't close to me. I lipread ALOT and if I wasn't DIRECTLY at thhe door or on the stones below the tavern.. I wasn't going anywhere.

I liked the point that you made that maybe NPCs should have a hook with instructions at times. It would make it easier for some of the PCs to get involved when they haven't went out much. I try and it is MY job to get involved, I understand that.

It's cool man, I'm not calling you a d*ck or anything.. i was just saying, if I wanted to , i could get alot more mods by being a d*ck, but I choose not to because it's more fun for everyone. I would rather we come up with these alternative solutions that are fun and include more people.

alternatively, i can't wait to play my alt. so i never have to worry about treasure again. thank you whoever created keirgani.

I've been playing this game over 14 years. I'm the GM of HQ. I know how to roleplay and get on mods. I even own a larp site.

I didn't go on any mods this event. I was getting dressed and missed the first afternoon wave battle Saturday...and I love wave battles (stick jock!). I would have liked to fight more this weekend (because I'm in better shape than all of you LOL. Yes, even you Torrie, haha).

But I still had a great time. You don't always get to go on mods. You don't always make every wave battle. You don't always get involved in every plot. You can always interact with the other PCs. With 50 of them there, how could you not find someone to talk to about something IG? I was playing an anti-social, super scary (or so people tell me), socially arrogant character. Yet I had lots of fun roleplaying with many, many of the PCs for hours. And I certainly hope they had fun roleplaying with me, despiter my character looking down his nose at them.

This certainly wasn't the best event HQ ever ran, but it certainly wasn't a bad one. If anything, it was a little "flat", and by that I mean there wasn't an IG sense of urgency. But that's to be expected after an epic, save the world plotline ends.

I've found that the more I try to be entertaining for others as a PC, the more I end up getting entertained. But what do I know?

That is the basic OOG goal of all of my PCs, those played and those yet to be played. I rarely get to go on mods that aren't specifically geared for what I'm playing (Oasi or Sarr for Kalaji, Elemental stuff when Telokh cast Celestial). The past several events I went on about 2 mods each time (go Nordale, or is it Blytheden?) and was remarking "Whoa, I actually made it into more than one mod!" I'm usually caught up with character interactions and only manage to fight a few crunchies and hit the big battles.

In a perfect world we wouldn't have to go home from game. ;)

When are you going to dye your skin black and hair white permanently Dave?

honestly you freak me out whenever I see you without makeup.
I have to agree

I have to agree about the camping of where the hooks come in game but there could be a pretty simple way to sped them out a bit:
There are 3 entrances to the tavern
1) The door everyone uses that has the awsome stairs.
2) The back stairs that leads to the privies right near the mages guild.
3) the door to NPC camp which could be a back door local farmers sneeking around monsters use.

If all of these different enterances were used for the mod hooks then there would be a lot more people getting to go on mods instead of just 1 or 2 groups getting 4 a piece

I agree 110% with Scott. When I was first playing this game, I didn't even know half of that stuff existed other than the wave battles. I think its one of those things wherein you need to spend time playing with other PCs. I had a great time playing opposite Scott, even if my PC was extremely afraid of him until I got to run around with him chasing a death rogue at 4:30 in the morning. But that's just it...I think sometimes we forget that while we pay for this game, we also have to find ourselves in situations that are fun for us, and not just expect plot to send it out all of the time.

This weekend I had a blast, because I hung out with other PCs. Most of my fun had little to do with the plotlines going on, but it still makes it a solid event for me. Because while I didn't have to be entertained by plot, I found every fishbowl, module or otherwise that much better, because it meant more pre/post interaction with other PCs.

Cases in point: Blowing up the nobles table.
Seeing what happens when you feed goblins baklava.

Both of these things were random little in and out fishbowls. However, they inspired a good hour to two hours of roleplay -after- they were all over.

People need to be proactive - if there isn't anything from plot, don't sit around and wait...try and get involved in something - if your PC is social, go talk to somebody you don't know. If you're antisocial, stare down your nose at people. Go read stuff in the Guilds...try sparring with a friend. One of the most hilarious RP moments for me happened two halloweens ago where Ash forest and Vex squad squared off just in tapping one another. We still have moments where we talk about that sort of thing. :)

I have to totally agree with this. I'd say more than half of the fun I've always had from this game is RP and hanging out with PC's. I just really enjoy "being" IG.

Hey I even had fun interacting with the supposedly anti social other characters...

My favorite plot hook of all time is simple. Some dude form NPC camp comes out and says, "You see a rift/mist/whatever open up in front of you." First six in go on a mod. You can have it pop up anywhere in town. There obviously has to be a reason for it, but I remember this not being so uncommon back at Lindenmere. Hell, there were times when we were still getting dressed and it would pop up outside our doors. We'd be running half naked to be the first ones in. It was fun because you had no idea what the hell you were about to get involved in.

Door # 3 is not an in-game door. It's an OOG convience. We do not want PCs chasing NPCs back through there and out onto the street, and unless something is rifting in, it makes no sense for an NPC to come out of an area where a PC can't follow. That being said, we could send hooks to the side door by the mage's guild on occasion. We'll keep that in mind.

Thos were the best. I was just talking about it this past event. I miss it when a rift would open up, nothing would come out and we would run and try and beat other groups to get in. Now I won't even go close to a rift, ever since the "crack". Now (to me) any rift you jump into=instant death. Its sad, those were some of the best mods ever.

If mod hooks start using the "back door" into the common room we should also be prepared for bad guys to do the same thing. I don't mind that at all, I'm just giving a heads-up.

NPCs could enter from the NPC camp door and do a three count to come through the door to the parking area. It would give some variety. Of course exiting out that door would be a problem. Farmers could come in that way and then exit out the main steps once they'll feel safe in the company of PCs who are helping with their problems, or even down the Mages' Guild steps if the mod will be in the basement. Bad guys would mot likely get into a fight and exit the same way or down the steps by the Mages' guild.

Although it would be odd IG to have a door that led into the tavern but didn't lead out. I'm just trying to offer up some variety. Maybe that door leads into the tunnels or something.

Those rift mods were so exciting, and we had a hell of a time trying to get to them first. I remember one friday night getting dressed ingame, a rift opened up right in the middle of town. Me and Danny ( calis ) look out the window and practicly fall over each other trying to get to it!! We always played a game "who could get to the rift first"!!! Pinning, disarming, binding, gassing, and outright tripping each other...laughing our asses off the entire way.

I gave the event an A+ because even though there were luls it did give those of us wearing armor time to rehydrate and get some good rp in.
