How to File a Sexual Harassment Report
Published August 4, 2018

The physical and emotional safety of those who participate in our community is of the utmost importance to us. The intent of this policy is to provide a clear process through which a sexual harassment report can be lodged, along with an outline of what to expect.

NEW - Sexual Harassment and Safety Team
Each Sexual Harassment report, whether Formal or Informal, will be handled by two (2) specifically trained staff members on our Sexual Harassment and Safety Team. The reporter has the option to select the two (2) staff members of their choice from the below list. If you do not wish to choose, we will select a team of two (2) for you. These two (2) staff members will have completed trainings on how to handle Sexual Harassment reports within two(2) months of the publication of this policy and/or of accepting the position of Alliance Seattle Player Representative.

  1. Lauren Hagen (Player Representative)

  2. Tony Mungo (Player Representative)

  3. Chantell Wagner (Player Representative & Head of the Sexual Harassment and Safety Team)

  4. Evan Rawson (Player Representative)

  5. Emily Shettel (Owner & General Manager)

Formal vs. Informal Report
In order to best accommodate the boundaries and comfort of those who are reporting sexual harassment, we allow two types of reports: Formal and Informal. Either type of report will always involve at least two (2) members of our Sexual Harassment and Safety Team.

An Informal Report can be provided by the person(s) directly involved, a 3rd party, or anonymously. An informal report will not result in an investigation, and the specifics of the report will remain as confidential as desired between the person lodging the complaint, the two Alliance Seattle staff members assigned to the report, and the Alliance Seattle owner. General information may be shared with other Alliance Seattle staff members, with consent from the person(s) directly involved, the reporter, or as it directly pertains to the staff members responsibilities to the chapter. Any Alliance Seattle Staff Member found in violation of this confidentiality will be removed from their staff position. All anonymous reports will be handled as informal reports and follow this process.

A Formal Report may not be filed anonymously. We will only accept a third party formal complaint with the direct permission of the person who is reported to have experienced the sexual harassment.

Formal Report Process
Contact any member of the Sexual Harassment and Safety Team, and let them know that you would like to file a Formal Complaint. If you are uncertain if you would like to file a formal or informal complaint, the Sexual Harassment and Safety Team can help you navigate through your options.

  • Once the decision has been made that a complaint is Formal, a second member of the Sexual Harassment and Safety Team will be immediately included in the conversation and apprised of all details. The Owner of the chapter will also be informed.

  • Whenever a Formal Complaint is lodged, the full Alliance Seattle staff is notified – a negotiation will take place about what information will be shared with the Alliance Seattle staff.

  • An investigation will begin within 72 hours of receiving a Formal Report.

  • During the investigation, there will be a no-contact order in place between the accuser and the accused, effective immediately upon receipt of the report, until the conclusion of the investigation.

  • The two (2) Sexual Harassment and Safety Team Representatives will conduct the investigation. They will endeavor to speak with the person who is reported to have experienced the harassment, the accused, and any witnesses. This team will use all information they have gathered to determine the best course of action. Disciplinary action for Sexual Harassment ranges from a one (1) game suspension, removal of staff positions, up to an indefinite ban.

  • The Sexual Harassment and Safety Team Representatives will inform the accuser, the accused, and the owner of Alliance Seattle of their decision and any resulting actions.

  • If either the accuser or the accused would like to appeal the decision, they may do so by contacting a member of the Sexual Harassment and Safety Team and stating that they would like to file an Appeal. If an appeal is requested, a third member of the Sexual Harassment and Safety Team will be assigned to review the appeal in tandem with the original two (2) members. This third member will be selected by the two (2) Sexual Harassment and Safety Team Representatives and the owner of Alliance Seattle. Both the accuser and the accused will be informed of the final determination.
This policy is not a criminal investigation. If you are the victim of a crime such as sexual assault, we encourage you to contact the authorities.
