How would you feel about this character?

all very good ideas, i already thought it would be wise to have a book with simple phrases, and some tablet that i can write on and erase would prove handy. but how well would chalk work and are their any other good options?

nothing that would fit well with the background/game/genre - no whiteboards.

Aside from a chalkboard.... I don't have suggestions. There is no easy way out there.

I would be willing to bet that with a combination of expressions, pre-written language and a little bit of ASL you could probably communicate a pretty high percentage of what you were hoping to convey without writing...

.... unless you are trying to talk to someone with Aspergers Syndrome or something like that.

I would just think the character would get boring to play after a while. After all, this is a combat game no matter how you slice it. Personally, a full weekend of just RP would kill it for me.

When I started my MWE bard I went 3 events before losing my starting protectives (and then she got kidnapped by Cannibals but that's another story entirely). Finding creative ways to avoid combat can be a lot of fun too.

that is a good point and one reason why i might want to start with Ithra (because he's going to be a scout) although here is the issue for me with combat. i am a martial artist and i'm almost to the point where i can start getting into sparring, so its likely that combat with sticks is going to get boring for me because i'll be sparring every week with real moves.

and once i have a large amount of alchemy i'll try to be in the fights throwing gases or supporting other characters.

Keep in mind that martial arts moves do not translate directly, even if you're training with weapons. Alliance combat is essentially a unique sport, and it can take years to master the various fighting styles just like it would with a martial art. I doubt you'll be bored with the combat, although it might be difficult to switch back/forth with the techniques you're learning in class vs. the techniques that best support boffer combat.
