I have begun a practical experimentation session for the coming year in an effort to offset both our personnel concerns as well as concerns with our as of yet cold winter to say nothing of the wind and rain... They will be capable of standing vigil at all times with no need for food, water, or rest. They will be given a simple set of instructions that are based off of observation and simple (if) <then> commands. I imagine we will have a period of false starts and alarms and will be endeavoring to teach them as best as they are able to learn as simple minded as basic constructs are. Magic should sustain them for about 1 year, in which time I will use what is left of their mind, magic, and form as materials consumed to create their next incarnation.

Bartholomew, The Tower Guardian (BtTG), was created in memory of our Former Watch Tower Guard who died in service at the mouth of a Bone Drake. This construct will stand vigil in the watch Tower at all times. With Keen eyes it is not hampered by lack of light, and has steller vision. BtTG's primary puropose is to reconcile what other Constructs report when they report it and for basic things, it may simply ring the alert bell as we already know, just as Bartholomew, first of his name - performed. BtTG is smarter & Stronger than the others, but it still a relatively simple creation that follows if/then logic and response. BtTG is capable of speech, though it is simple speech, and will usually refrain as they do not engage in "small talk" speaking is an aspect of communicating the responses correlating to assigned tasks. Though BtTG will only communicate with a human shape who bares my Caster's Mark.

Bartholomew, The Portal Guardian (BtPG), was also created in Bartholomew, First of His Name's memory - they are stationed within the cliff side of the closest Time Spider Cave directly west. BtPG guards this cave entrance to observe and report what it sees exiting the cave system. It is not skilled in combat nor created with natural weaponry. Its sole purpose is to observe and report what it sees within the confines of the logic it understands. This logic is rudimentary in regards to "human shape" or "Monster Shape", self injury and storm spotter. This is then given to BtTG through a different device of my creation, and BtTG is then able to Ring the Settlement Alarm Bell, or signal for a guard.

Please do not Disturb BtPG, it only observes to provide an early warning system to the settlement and will largely only move in an effort to prevent self harm. Meddling with it, interaction, attacks, thrown sticks etc - could confuse it and force it to report that there is danger at the Time Spider Cave.

Future Planning

Once the South Bridge is "safe" from the animated vines and other dangers, a construct will also be stationed at the bridge to provide early warning of something crossing that bridge.

East Mountain Range - is the resting place of the Bone Drakes, there is an eventual goal to monitor these magical beasts - but at the moment the first priority is closer to the settlement and in the interim discover what these creatures are *not* willing to put in their mouth. As of yet, like small children - we haven't encountered anything they are not at least willing to put in their mouth. Until I do, no construct can be made that is unlikely to be eaten, chewed on, and then reloacted - and they are unable to defend themselves to such a degree as a Bone Drake.

Any questions, please let me know.

An update for my Fellows!

The Alarm Construct Network has had its first measurable Success!

Over the winter I spent a fair bit of time with Bartholomew, The Tower Guardian as well as Bartholomew, the Portal Guardian. This turned out to be an ideal time as not much adventuring was occurring and any false starts and mis-identifications, were easily corrected by the adventurers still within the town.

Abomb was able to cast a Forsee the Weather and predict the arrival of the monumental storm a full hour in advance of its arrival - which now explains the immense value and rarity of those ritual scrolls.... The adventurers were "out investigating the possible mine during this time, meanwhile BtTG & BtPG, who's eyesight is not biological, but magical and enhanced beyond your average humanoid - Were able to see the storm approaching at roughly 30ish-min out. As instructed, BtTG signaled a town guard and showed them the symbol for "Storm" and the Town was able to adequately prepare in our absence. Once the Storm arrived, the Town Guard in the Guard Tower, was unable to see anything at a distance due to the immense Storm. Despite this, BtTG's Eyes are magical and could see through the storm, provide the symbol for "monster", and the Warning Bell was able to alert the town & adventurers a full 15min before the monster's arrival, where the guard reports that they wouldn't have seen the monsters till they were only a few minutes away.

With this success, I am going to make sure that the Captain of our Guard gets time with myself and BtTG so that she can teach all the guards his Colors and Symbols. I will also be preparing some form of "info Sheet" for the adventurers so if they are in the Tavern and see BtTG ringing the bell and waving a flag - the adventurers will also know what it is attempting to communicate.

This will not replace actual guard work, but it has lessened the strain on our barracks to allowing a Guard assigned to the tower to be "on call" instead of "24/7" coverage. BtTG's communication is color and symbol based so it remains unable to follow anyone's commands other than mine - it does get a guard to confirm its findings or what BtPG has relayed to it using said colors and symbols.

Future Planning is to still build Bartholomew the Bridge guardian, at the eastern Bridge once it is "safe".

This winter, I plan to spend time with our Formal Magic, Celestial - Specialist to teach them what I did and how I did it, so that in the future - so long as we adventurers can find the necessary scrolls and rituals, or have enough townsfolk dedicated to the future Magical Research building for the townsfolk to find and acquire the reagents.

This continues to go without saying that this project requires no small amount of Bound Shards, Construct, and Heal Golem Rituals as well as Raw Materials & Ritual Reagents. Anyone able to donate these things to me would be greatly appreciated to offset current 100% of the cost of my supplies and research time.
