Word spread of the actions between Hargroth and the Heroes at the last gather:
Hargroth had somehow gotten an army behind Stradysh lines?
The Front was almost sandwiched from behind?
Shock ripples through the populace, the realization of potential loss of a major segment of Stradyn’s army and a new line of contention with Hargroth… that would strain Stradyn’s military resources and defenses even farther. Only the arrival of the Heroes staved off the fall of Stradyn through their assault on the Hargrothian force that had circle-walked just miles outside of Barstow – a fact that no one takes lightly.
Orders from Duke Ferris Longshadow, dispersed by his niece Lord Yvonne Longshadow, are provided to further establish Barstow as a stronghold. If the lines between The Front and Barstow fall, Stradyn needs Barstow as a foothold to prevent Hargrothian forces from spilling into the Kingdom and occupying more territory than Stradysh forces, even augmented by The Heroes, can successfully defend.
The Guilds have called meetings at The Capital to discuss how they can best send aid and support Barstow and Steinholm in this challenging time, and assist with the Ducal orders to reinforce Barstow's position. Envoys are anticipated to arrive in Barstow shortly after mid-month in the new year.
Along with Stradysh affairs, the latest confrontation with Hargroth has begun to draw international attention. Word in the Five Crowns Markethouse is that ambassadors from Ultus may arrive around the same time as the Guild envoys. There are even rumors that the reclusive Garaltans may send an ambassador as well, although with the journey from Garalta to Stradyn being fairly arduous, any Garaltan ambassadors wouldn’t be expected to arrive so quickly.
Throughout the Kingdom, the reality of the plight with Hargroth truly sets in, especially for those of the northwestern Duchy, Steinholm, within which Barstow resides. Visitors have begun trickling in to witness these fabled Heroes. Enrollment in local guards throughout the Kingdom has increased, as many of Stradyn’s youth recognize the reality of the war with Hargroth, and pledge that they will work to gain the skills to stand with the Heroes someday, and take the places of Stradyn’s fallen.
