Post favs from the Kid's event!

For we crazy few adults.

-The uber bridge event: So, the rain washed Scott's huge bridge down the river (all hail the power of the water). That bridge was barely even -scratched- asides from a bolt missing. That thing is awesomely built. Serious props to Scott. But we still had to bring it up. Big thanks to all the dudes who jumped in the water with me to drag it by ropes up the creek, back to its rightful place. You guys ROCKED.

-NPCs, you made the event for the kids. Thank you guys for bringing the story to them. And getting the crap beat out of you. Over, and over, again. And then some.

-Amelia's awesomeness. I cannot even begin to describe her genius entertainments for the kids RP delight.

-Hipper Hopper vs. Witch Hazel showdown. I could not have asked for two better people to play those roles, nor for a better depiction of it. Kudos to James and Amelia. Extra kudos to James for his awesomeness as Hipper Hopper!

I will probably think of many more. The whole weekend was one crazy ride. I enjoyed writing it, and I enjoyed running it. Everyone rocked it.

First, a huge thanks to Elissa for writing this event. She is a total rockstar. Every encounter was fun and incredibly creative; the kids were glowing with happiness on the ride home (we got lost and it took 10 hours, but it was definitely worth it).

Hipper Hopper! When asked about the weekend, the giant rabbit with the silly voice was the first thing the kids mentioned. The whack-a-mole game with the elemental bugs was awesome. And James, I enjoyed chasing you around with a broom.

Nutter the squirrel and her heavy acorns. Again, this was a really creative encounter.

Getting to humiliate the older kids with funny talisman-activating dances.

RP with all the kids! They were having so much fun ganking the monsters, I hope they had as much fun as I did RPing with them.

Okay, so Jeremy walks into NPC camp after being a Spider Bite in a wave battle and starts shouting that he just got beaten up by a little girl. He was really trying, and she flame bolted him down. It wasn't until later he realized it was my 6 year old sister. I am so proud of the little wizard in the family.

The endless energy of these kids was amazing. I was exhausted from running 1/4 of the distance they covered, and they were still going. Thanks to all the parents/aunts/uncles/siblings who brought their kids to the event. Ryan, Aubry and Carrie all had a great time and made friends.

I agree, Giant Kudos to Elissa. It was a really great event for the kids. Thanks to all that NPC'ed your time is greatly appriciated!!!!

Hipper Hopper was one crazy bunny that they all want to come back next event.

Amelia, you are awsome!!!!, seeing you come in, the kids didn't know whether to attack or just let you be. I am glad I pushed them to go and talk to the dryad that wandered into the tavern. My Girls loved it!!!

Whack a Bug was one great way to tire out these kids. It worked too!!!! Elemental (hot and cold for the kids) bugs just great.

I couldn't believe the way they just watch the witch chase Hipper Hopper around the tree. Their banter was awsome!! finally they were pinned and got to talk it out.

I think my favorite for the event was taking the 2 oldest there (13 yrs old I think??) on a mission for Baron Ivan. I am so glad I hopped into it before they went. It was completely scaled for them as a first look at adventuring.
--Raven was asked by Baron Ivan to take Ashrik, and the "bravest" (now squires apprentice Al, and a young biata, Nethanial??name??.
--This was awsome to see there faces when the necromancer asked them if they knew of healing magic, of couse they replied no. The necromancer replies that Earth Magic can bring life or death (throwing a decapated head at them), and proceeds to create undead in his tomb. We were calling damage, the necromacer was throwing cause light wounds at them. IT WAS AWSOME!!! The OH SH!#, look on their faces was priceless. They received a real taste and hopefully learned some very important things on that mod.

My girls can't wait for August!!

An "introduction to adventuring" sounds awesome. Scaled for them and preparing them for a regular event. I wish I could have seen it.

-The necro tomb encounter really was a thoroughly badass idea. It was a blast to be a part of NPCing it, and I think the PCs were successfully creeped the frick out.

-Watching the 6-year-olds taking their hits and going down when I even lost track. These are some seriously honest fighters I'm talking about, and they picked up the rules and the etiquette lightning fast. The kids themselves were definitely the very best part of the weekend. A solid, solid group.

-Getting my undead corpse dragged into the tavern to show off the sort of creepy nasties that the older kids got to take down in the necromancer's tomb. The little ones were poking, prodding, oooing, ahhhing, and the older kids were there just so dang proud of their kill.

-It started raining a little during the bridge hauling escapade. Rain makes physical labor epic.

-Elissa being the Lucy-like, never-ending conveyor belt of plot. You think you're on top of it, but then another encounter comes! And another! And another! And by the end of the weekend you think you've maybe messed it all up, but everyone's laughing and you're stuffed full to bursting with the awesomeness, and apparently it all worked out just great in the end, because it was written by a creative genius!

-NPC camp. You folks are the reason I keep coming back. Being counted among you makes me proud, and watching you work is humbling. There was not a single NPC who did not in some way encourage me this weekend, by example, to work harder, have more fun, entertain the kids more, and just generally try to be always better. Thanks, guys.

Why do they get undead corpses and we get piles of dust? ;)

Kid Magic, 75% more effective than Dragon Magic in all things imaginary. ^^

Only a few ways to describe the kids event this weekend. Creative, Fun, Exciting, and very very nice way of taking yourself away from the game we play and making it lighter easier and filled with alot more laughs as opposed to "LIFE SPELL!!!!" lmao

- James as the hipper hopper was amazing, sneaking up behind him and getting him to do one of his epic falls for the kids and then being chased down by a bunch of laughing little kids was amazing.

-That bridge is some seriously heavy duty work and it weighed so much. I am glad the NPC camp was filled with people willing to dive in and fix what was broken. I was amazed it made its way that far into the contested lands.

- NPCs you guys were great. full of energy and I loved the look on your faces seeing I was spider biting everything, even other NPCs. I was determined to wear the kids out with that polearm.

-Sux I had to leave early, I enjoyed the roles I had played and getting to play a key role and help run a mod. I know it was all a kids event so as some jack***s have said to me it didnt matter. But I saw it as still a way to be involved and get experience in these sort of things given Ive only ever PCd and NPCd as crunch. I see this event like any other event. Just smaller and alot more "Funner-er" even goofier. AMAZING for the kids.

-MY NECRO ROLE!!!! and the mod. It started with me seeing Amelia dressing up for RP so what I did was started throwing on some creepy clothing and a hood. Before you know it Elissa comes up to me and says "You wanna scare the crap out of the older kids!?" I was instantly exploding with excitement. We worked out the idea for the hook and mod. The whole thing went amazing, and getting to play a charismatic bad guy role is always my most favorite thing to do. You kids heard it yourself from the Necromancer too. "You have NOT scene the last of me!!!" His revenge will be sweet. I cant wait for august. Hopefully this time I can stay

- The little girl with Amelia, Your the star of the event girl, the only little girl I can turn to and say "Stay away, she'll get you good" It started with me trying to jump her as a spider bite while she was walking around alone. It turned into her owning my face and me thinking "Oh wow I'm embarassed.....I'm trying" Keep it up ya little caster, and Ill be just as scared of you anytime I NPC lmao.

Thanks again to everyone, it was a very very fun event. I got my Alliance fix and I got to run run run like I love doing when I go to alliance. Thank you alliance, Hopefully I'll get to see you all in two weeks :D

Oh my goodness! I was more tired at the kids event then I EVER was NPCing at the normal event!

Getting tied up as a captive my the kids...WHO GAVE THEM THAT IDEA! THEY DID IT TWICE!

Sitting in my hole as a bug and listening to James as hipper hopper 'There's bugs in my holes. You have to get rid of them!' I couldn't stop laughing.

Going in as a Romani with a human servant and the kids beatting him down to show me that they're the only ones that can do magic and fighting stuff. LOL!

Squaring off with....Kevin...i think....As grey goblins and taking on the Squire and Nathaniel. We actualy beat you two down and I was so surpised....Cause that squire was a mean....person....lol...'Hit hit...call upon earth to heal my wounds......WTF!!!'

hipper hopper and the witch...hahahahahahaha. That's great.

Had a blast all weekend. I wish I could go to the next event....stupid army.

Ok I will throw in my two cents.
Hipper hopper was a great role. The smiles on the kids faces when I played him and then the looks on the faces when Jeremy chased me into town and I slid out of the way so they could beat him up was great....... Hmmm a rabbit scavie in the future now thats an Idea. But honestly I am so willing to do that role again if you want him back.

The arguement will Witch Hazel was great not my fault goblins cook better.

And at least the kids got rid of the BUGS in my HOLES. that was so hard to say with a straight face. Thanks Duffy you didn't make it any easier.

Going in town as Jarrin and hearing from Nathenial that he killed a Necromancer only regret not being there to go with him. Hipper Hopper was a very tiring role.

Being a spider thief and stealing the little girls sheild. never again they are vicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a great time and the plot was amazing. I will NPC anytime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, I want to apologize for my delay in posting this. I left the event Sunday and had to drive to the airport to catch my flight overseas.

Second, I want to thank everyone who helped make this such a great event. I really appreciate it and I know the kids loved it!

Third, a special thanks goes to all those who came to NPC just so they could give the kids a fun time. You guys made the event and we couldn't have done it without your efforts. Amelia's role-playing was a great example for the kids and the energy of Kevin and Vince was unbelievable. Sharon was great (as always), Duffy is always ready to help and James' rabbit, Hipper Hopper, was the most memorable NPC of the event.

Fourth, I want to give a big thank you to Bob and Kristy Cook for all their hard work in getting this game together. Kristy did a great job with the store and her son Brian and Bob's nephew Andrew were a huge help. Also, a special thanks goes to Danielle for running the tavern and giving the kids some great snacks (including a real chocolate fountain!).

Fifth, an extra-extra-extra-special thank you goes to Elissa who wrote an awesome event! It was very creative and engaging for the kids. In addition, she managed to put together some great stuff on the fly for the older kids (thank you to Bobby and Dan for being PC escorts on their first "real" adventure).

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone and if so, I apologize. Suffice it to say that with your help, we've turned this kid's weekend into a real event that the kids will remember for a long time.

Now don't forget that we have another kid's event scheduled for August 1-2 and I hear rumors that plot has Baron Ivan going bad, so be sure to be there!

Why do they get undead corpses and we get piles of dust? ;)

The reason is quite simple actually. The animating magic of necromancy holds the natural process of corpse decay in stasis. The typical corpse falls to dust when it is destroyed due to the decay catching up, in certain instances, like a fresher corpse, or when it would make for really awesome roleplay undead may, in fact leave corpses...

or I could just be way off base here, who knows?

Anyone have any pictures from the event? My girls would love to see pics of a kid's event! We're still planning to come up in August at this point. I just need to spend more time helping them understand the game.

Glad this was a big hit again!

Hahaha, yeah, those were great times! "Oh, I'll just fire bolt you to show you" - *I sidestep* - "okay, we'll firebolt him". Heheheh.

I got a legitimate OOG pleasure being able to take down Aaron the squire. He figured out how cool it is to be a fighter/caster who doesn't have to call damage while fighting. He was just saying the self-healing incants mid-combat and taking advantage of the infinite healing spells... much to the NPCs' dismay. Kudos to Aaron for finding the exploit and using it so darn well! That guy could swing a sword while holding an aura to his chest, while incanting, and he was so proficient with the process that I could barely get a hit in edgewise. It took Angel and I together to get enough hits in to disrupt him. Very impressive!

<<< He was just saying the self-healing incants mid-combat and taking advantage of the infinite healing spells... much to the NPCs' dismay. >>>

Yeah, that's a rule we need to weigh for next year. Maybe the kids will start calling damage next year which will make that type of self-healing much harder.

Also, the kids would run up to someone and start casting "I call upon the earth......" while they were still nowhere near their "dead" companion, complete the incant and then touch the target. I guess this is even possible in our current rules since you can move and cast at the same time, right? At worst, you could start the incant and then as you near the target, you could drop ("throw") the spell packet onto them, right?

--- Eric Stehle

make it so healing is only worth one point just like a flame bolt

That's a really good idea cause that was just SOOOO hard to beat down them all and then have the back at full health...then again it was really funny when i was down to one and caught the spell packet that he threw...FULL HEALTH!! MUWAHAHAHAHAHa
