LARP Weaponry - Magic Wizard Staff!

Discussion in 'New Player Discussions' started by Nicole Tienter, Jul 8, 2017.

  1. Greetings! My name is Nicole and I'm reaching out to you in hopes of getting feedback and spreading the word on a project for the LARP community. We are hoping this can become part of the LARP weaponry.

    Here is the low-down:
Basically, we decided to integrate technology and 'magic' to create a Magic Wizard Staff. My friend (Mechanical Engineer) and his buddy built three Magic Wizard Staff prototypes, and we now need to get feedback so that we can begin designing the next phase of even more advanced staffs.

Check out one of the staffs in the video below:

Is this a LARP weapon that interests you? If so, here is a link to our website:

It would be great if we could get people to fill out the questionnaire under the "We Need Your Help!" section.

    It looks cool.

I have concerns about weapon safety (can I hit someone who is wearing just cloth/t-shirt material with it and not cause bruising/welts, etc.).

I'm also concerned how it would play with Latex and Boffer weapons -i.e. if someone swings their boffer/latex sword and it is blocked by this staff, would it get caught on an edge and damage the sword? Crazy angles happen sometimes, and sometimes accidents happen (someone moves a direction you weren't expecting).

It's really hard to tell what the different parts of the staff are made of. Is the main shaft real wood? Does it have latex or plastic pieces? Sharp edges (unintentional or not)?

  3. Hi there,

All very great questions. At this point, we have only developed prototypes. Based upon the insight gathered from all of your responses, we will decide on the final manufacturing and specifics of the staff.

Would you be willing to fill out the questionnaire on our website? By doing so, we will have your email which will allow us to keep you updated on the specifics of the staff and get into contact with you if you have any further questions.

Thank you so much for your response! It will not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.

    Hey there, folks.

While I certainly don't mind the conversation in general, I don't believe this particular thread is in the appropriate place for this discussion. This should probably be in the Arts, Costuming, and Props section.

I'm hoping a Paladin can relocate it.
