Live concerts I have seen

...was just thinking about this the other day -- trying to remember all the bands and performers I have seen over the years. I saw a lot more when I was younger (of course), but that's also partially due to the fact that you could see a concert in those days for $25 instead of $100 or more. I'm not counting small bands who never released a record or anything -- I played in enough of those bands and saw plenty others who opened for us and who we opened for...

Let's see if I can remember them all:

Blondie
The Boomtown Rats
The Clash
Elvis Costello (x3)
Crack the Sky (x2, soon to be x3)
Devo
Donovan
The Doobie Brothers
Peter Frampton
Mark Hudson
Neil Innes
Joe Jackson
Jethro Tull
Kid Creole and the Coconuts (x3)
The Monkees (with just Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz)
O Positive (anyone remember them? We opened for them once)
Robert Palmer
Parliament/Funkadelic
Billy Preston
The Pretenders
The Ramones (x2)
Rockpile (featuring Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds)
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Sparks
Split Enz
Squeeze
The Sugarcubes (with Bjork)
They Might be Giants
The Tubes
Yes

My favorite? Either Elvis Costello with Squeeze opening, or Crack the Sky when they invited Heidi and I backstage and I got to jam with them!

Concerts?

Hrm... only 3 total

Rusted Root x2 (back in HS/College)

Billy Joel at Shea Stadium - guest appearances by Tony Bennet, Garth Brooks, Stephen Tyler, Roger Daltry and Paul McCartney.

Yeah but the Billy Joel one really makes up for a lot.

Keep in mind that I (a) saw a lot when I was younger, things were cheaper, and I was a musician in a band; (b) some of the people on my list are from the same concert (Squeeze opening for Elvis Costello, for instance); and (c) I'm a lot older than everyone else here so have had more time to see concerts.

Well Known Bands:

The Kinks
Bobby Brown & New Edition (don't ask! it was 1989 and someone gave me tickets)
Joan Jett
The Psychedelic Furs
David Bowie
Rob Zombie x2 (Best concerts ever)
Black Sabbath (Dio Version)
Ozzy Osbourne (Ozzy Version)
Megadeath
Nine Inch Nails
Motorhead

Not as well known:
In This Moment (great female heavy metal lead vocalist)
Bella Morte x2
Wolfsheim (good for the iPod, lousy concert)
Dresden Dolls (great performances)
Covenant (not bad performance for three guys with no real instruments)
Assemblage 23

I'm probably missing some.

I'm still jealous Scott saw the Kinks...

One band I always wanted to see was XTC, one of my favorites. I had tickets to a show they were going to do in Boston and then, a week before, Andy Patridge (the leader) had a breakdown and decided to never perform live again -- and he has kept that promise ever since!!! He couldn't wait one more week?!!!!

And yes, the estate of Patrridge in Nordenn is named after him.

Hanson x4 (Yeah, I'm a dork, MMMBopping since 1997)
Trans Siberian Orchestra
MeatLoaf
Blue Man Group
Riverdance
Celtic Woman
Breaking Benjamin x2
Fuel
Jason Mraz
Rockapella
InPulse (A Cappella Group)
Bonnie Rideout (Celtic Fiddle Player)

I think that's all of them...and I've met all but Fuel, Breaking Benjamin, and Blue Man Group. Have pictures and everything!

Sharon Louis and Brahm's the Elephant show (I was like 10..but it technically counts)
John Denver
Radiohead
Alanis Morrisette
Sarah Mclachlan
Sheryl Crow (x2)
Suzanne Vega
Indigo Girls (Big surprise)
Barenaked Ladies
Vertical Horizon
MeatLoaf
Elton John
Billy Joel Last Play at Shea (same guests as Ezri)
Dave Matthew's Band
Allman Brothers Band
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Alison Krauss
Cher (the Ticket was free :) )
Shakira (surprisingly good)
Linkin Park
Stone Temple Pilots
Staind

Not so well known's:
Dar Williams x2
Kris Delmhorst
Melissa Ferrick x3
Anne Heaton
Deadsye
Static-X
Wolfstone

A lot of mine are attributed to actual venue shows, Like Family Values Tour, Lilith Fair, and Bonnaroo. And unfortunately these are all the ones I actually remember right now; I think there've been more, but off the top of my head, thats it.

Its one of the best concerts I've seen, honestly.

Although I think the Billy Joel one will be the best one I've ever seen. At the end of the concert, after piano man, he came out with Sir Paul McCartney and had him on the piano singing let it be.

Interesting topic. I was a music hound from when I was little kid, and actually going to concerts from like 12 on. I used to have a box with all my old concert tickets, but I'm pretty sure I tossed it in a move sometime. Here's what I can remember:
Motley Crue
Poison
Whitesnake
Skid Row
Guns N Roses
+Live+ (x3)
Pink Floyd
Stone Temple Pilots
Green Day
Queensryche
Our Lady Peace
The Verve Pipe
Everclear
Candlebox
Cracker
Dishwalla
Local H
Stabbing Westward
Billy Joel
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Dave Matthew's Band (x2)
Phish (x2)
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (x3)
Mickey Hart and Planet Drum
Global Drum Project
Ozzfest 01 (Slipknot, Mudvayne, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Hatebreed, Nonpoint, PapaRoach, Black Label Society, etc)
311 (x2)
Shootyz Groove
Allman Brothers
Tool
Tomahawk
Type O Negative
Glen Phillips (formerly of Toad the Wet Sprocket)

I know I've forgotten a number of shows in there....Best show was probably +Live+ at the Stone Pony. They were "trying out" material for what was to become the "Distance to Here" album-- a little mini-tour of 5 small venues, and the stuff they played at that show was much edgier than what ended up on the album. Plus, the Stone Pony is awesome-- it was like seeing the best bar band who played a couple songs you knew.

Let's see. Just the majors here :

The Guess Who
Tool x 2
Metallica
Kid Rock
Korn
Powerman 5000
System of a Down (I wish I'd never seen this band. They got booed off stage.)
Creed
Three Doors Down
Slipknot (At least half a dozen times, I live in their hometown)
Disturbed
Shinedown x 2
Trans Siberian Orchestra
Live

Chicago
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Donnie Iris
Pink Floyd
Robert Page and Jimmy Plant
Rusted Root (opened for Page and Plant)
Most of the acts on the main stage at Woodstock '94 (I'll fill these in later)
Alanis Morisette
Ozzy Osbourne
Sarah McLachlan
'Weird Al" Yankovic
Off-Kilter
Barrage

Can't forget: Hydrate !!!!!! ;)

Oh yeah, forgot about Melissa Ferrick and Anne Heaton. Sadly I never made it to an official Hydrate concert.

I am however jealous of those who saw Meatlof and TSO.

Almost went and saw the Insane Clown Posse, but couldn't because of a certain allergy to a certain illicit substance.
