What's our current logo?

:er: i don't know how to say "look in his signature" or "look at the top of the page" without sounding condescending.

I'm not a designer myself so I have no real preference.

But, I would like some consistency.

Would it be inappropriate to ask for them to come as Jpgs?

Stephen

no that's fine, i just wanted to make sure. some of my clients are reeeeeeealy picky when it comes to file types.

I am NOT picky. I would just prefer to be able to open it. Because... well... you know.

Official answer:

I would prefer JPGs, but I will not disqualify anyone for alternate file types. If I can't open it I will send it back so you can change file types.

Wow, I didn't realize that was an actual 'logo' just thought it was a preferred font. Now I see the reason for the contest.

Exactly.

Now... show me whatcha got!! You guys have no idea how stoked I am to see what comes in.

Keep in mind too that this logo will likely find itself on our website, future rulebooks and on all sorts of promotional goodies... so if you've got some design skill and wanted to see your work in lights... this is one way to do it.

dont feel bad, i sent steve a list of professional type questions i would normally ask a client.. and i think it may have made his head explode... i was curious about formats and such as well...

the industry is a fierce jungle...

I thought the topic said LEGO contest... Now I'm sad that I can't draw. :( Can we do a Lego contest? Best dramatic diorama? I'd toss $5.00 into a pot for the winner.

I LOVE LEGO!!!... i have a custom built 2 foot dragon i started like 6 years ago sitting above my computer. it needs wings and hands.. but otherwise its pretty epic.

Toddo,

Consider it filed for future promotional uses.

Further official clarification:

All submissions should be in Vector format so that the finished product can be better scaled for various uses.

If you are not sure what that is.... ask here and am certain one of our design people will give you some basics.

I'll be editting these into my original announcement for reference.

It is a format that computes the line instead of the dots. Gives a much cleaner picture than Gif, Jpg, etc. Sadly, I don't have access to that software format.

I think what would probably more beneficial is to keep scalability in mind. I imagine if you cannot create a vector graphic, some kind soul out there can take your produced work and work with / vectorize it, so long as you dont make it so complex that it just cant be made into a vector.

A good thing to keep in mind when doing logo graphics is media form translatablity... IE fancy fonts and colors are cool and all but they need to be quickly discernible while still being memorable.... FANCY calligraphy and fonts are cool but not always the easiest to read. Gradients look nice but can be a pain when printing a hundred times, dont necessarily scale well and dont always transfer well to black and white.

Good logo design tends to lean towards simpler shapes and limited colors. Look at all the famous logos out their.. the are very much positive negative shape oriented, because the human eye translates symbols to meaning much faster than it transfers a detailed picture.

If an image is made with these concepts in mind it should nt be difficult to turn that image into a vector graphic.

just my 2 cents.

wellllll.. and i wonder if requiring vector format is fair. i mean, us insider guys know can submit that, but guy with MS paint can't and he might have a better idea...

if it were me (and thankfully it is not) i'd say send a jpg and then if your design wins we'll have someone "in the know" vectorize it.

unless the purpose was to move things along faster and only alow graphic designers to submit thier ideas.

Assuming the image given to me isnt ridiculous, i would volunteer to vectorize an approved logo.

The concern is that we don't want to get a logo design that we can't use because we don't have a graphic designer to vectorize it.

But, if someone in the know is willing to vectorize the winner... then I will accept non vectorized entries.

Can you guys do me a favor though and post some suggestions for people so they know what "ridiculous" means? What stuff should they be AVOIDING if they can't do the vector thing.
