I don't know if anyone has seen this story on CNN...Merlin was one of my patients at the ISR where I was stationed from Nov 2004 through Nov 2007. I was working the night they brought him in and had first rehab contact with him...I was his primary treating therapist the day he discharged from the hospital just over 17 months later.
When he came in, no one thought he would survive the night. He proved us wrong by walking out of the hospital under his own power. Unfortunately, no good thing lasts forever.
