Mirrors

Can mirrors be used in Alliance or are they considered too modern? In particular I was thinking of using mirrors for the following two purposes.

1. Small signaling mirror you could carry on you - to signal back to the tavern for help at night.

2. Parabolic mirror - you could put a light source at the focus, stay near a place you want to defend, and use it as a searchlight to get advance warning of any attackers.

Mirrors are old. If you want something that feels more like a prop, get a metal mirror instead of a modern one. http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Duty-St...8&qid=1427946089&sr=8-2&keywords=steel+mirror

They also tend to be common place at larp sites and pretty important for fixing your gear, so I think people tend to think of them as part of the game. The parabolic mirror idea sounds like a hooded lantern, which is totally a D&D/Fantasy/Greymouser thing, so you'd probably be OK. With that said, it's usually NOT ok to shine bright lights at people at night.
