Monster Camp to be shown in Seattle

Director/Editor/Cinematographer Cullen Hoback and I wanted to alert everyone that we will have a world premiere screening of our documentary MONSTER CAMP about the NERO Seattle chapter at the 600-seat San Jose Repertory Theatre during the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose on Saturday, March 3rd, 2007 at 9:30 p.m.

Additional screenings are scheduled for the Camera 12 theatres on Sunday, March 4th and Saturday, March 10th. The Cinequest link to our documentary, MONSTER CAMP can be found here http://www.cinequest.org/programguide/detail.php?m=1181

A link to the video trailer is on our web site:

http://www.monstercampmovie.com
www.monstercampthemovie.com

These links go to the same preliminary home page. There is a link to the trailer there. We will be loading a better compression of this preview video as soon as possible, but you will always be able to find it there, and we are working on a more sophisticated web site.

After its world premiere at Cinequest, MONSTER CAMP will be screened in May/June at the Seattle International Film Festival (http://www.seattlefilm.com) no Seattle date & times are yet announced. The film will also screen in June at the Swansea Bay Film Festival in Wales (UK) At the Dylan Thomas Centre http://www.swanseafilmfestival.com

We expect additional screenings will be announced and will keep the web site updated to reflect those screenings.

We would be absolutely delighted if any of you could join us at our San Jose screenings -- full costume would not be out of the question!! I am sure the rest of the festival audience would love to have you there. We know based on our focus group screenings of MONSTER CAMP that people have a lot of questions about NERO. We believe that this film will cause a surge of interest in your games. And we hope that if you are looking to grow, that you are able to add members that you will all enjoy having as part of your group.

Tickets to our film are available through the Cinequest Web site at the following link:

Could someone please let Leighann know? The e-mail address I have for her keeps coming back. You can reach me directly at akdouglas@msn.com

Will the movie be release on DVD? If so, when?

no DVD just yet

We are working on distribution of course, but before we get distribution the film will likely have to play several festivals and hopefully win some awards along the way. It is very difficult for any independent film to obtain distribution. The way independent films get distribution is through "buzz" about the film and by having full theatres. We believe strongly that this film is going to be highly enjoyed. We have review quotes from Film Threat (http://www.filmthreat.com) from their review that will be going online soon.

****************
Here's what the Film Threat reviewer said:

"Monster Camp" is one of the many documentaries taking off from the "Trekkies" and "Ringers" formula, in which we spend a time in the lives of folks who just love their hobby ad fanaticism, and Hoback pays them the proper respect for it."

"With enough time, and proper distribution, "Monster Camp" will be as big a cult classic as "Trekkies"..."

""Freedom State" made being insane so damn fun and dared to challenge our perceptions of normality, and in "Monster Camp" [Hoback] adds a sense of style to the folks of the Nero Franchise. He delves into their lives and never undermines their own obsession for the fantastic, and the weird. "

Once we secure distribution, we will certainly let you know. It will likely take 6-18 months. In the meantime, if you could share our myspace link with people and encourage them to see the film whereever we can get it shown (we are certain that lots of other festivals are going to want this movie -- Seattle really REALLY wanted to have the world premiere, but it was too late).

So here's our link -- we've got a better looking compression of the trailer here:

We're working on upgrading the web site, and will continually be updating it with festival screening information. Seattle won't be posting their screening dates and times until mid March or so.

When we have a Portland screening, we can let everyone in free. Sadly, we don't have any control over access at festivals, as they keep all the money for themselves!

Myself, and a few others went and saw the world premiere down here. Definitely worth seeing. Not gonna say any more except go see it.
