Need Cheap Garb

Punyon

Newbie
Hey y'all,

New player here (October will be my first event), and I was wondering if people had any suggestions for good places to get cheap, sturdy garb. I'm looking for clothing and armor, as well as Alliance-legal boffers. Mostly looking for darker colors, blacks, blues, and grays. I'm gonna have a price max of about $200 for everything, but would prefer to get as much as I can as cheap as possible (obviously).

Any suggestions for websites or people to contact?

I get all my gear from http://medievalcollectibles.com/. I make my own boffers though so I can't help you there. Read the rulebook, making a boffer is easy. For a higher quality boffer you are looking at latex boffers that can be pricey and some aren't Alliance-legal.

With Medieval Collectibles make sure their items are in stock before ordering. You can chat direct online during business hours so it isn't hard to find out. If an item isn't in stock it can be delayed by quit a bit. Dig through the site and you will find some great gear that isn't replica.

You'll pretty much have to make a boffer, or buy a latex weapon, which as Ron said, are spendy and may not be Alliance legal. For making a Alliance legal boffer, you'll want 5/8" wall pipe foam, not the 3/8" wall stuff they carry at Home Depot/Lowes. It's harder to find, but you can order it online through Do It Best Hardware and they'll ship it for free to select local hardware stores. The wall thickness refers to the thickness of the foam itself, not the diameter.

For quick and cheap, I recommend sweat pants for your legs, especially if you'll be wearing something (armor, long tabard, etc) over them. Fred Meyer.

The best piece of costuming you can actually spend money on is a good shirt. If you're like me, $40 sounds like too much for a shirt you're only going to wear a few times a year, especially just starting out, but it really is the best, most cost effective thing you can buy. It's costume season, but don't fall prey to the 'costume pirate shirt' in some pre-packaged deal at the Wal-mart. Try eBay, a local costume place that does rentals (they tend to have sturdier stuff), or sometimes the local incense/random clutter type shop will have them. If you can get tapestries there, you might be able to get shirts there.

I've got a few sets of bracers for sale, they're cheap because they're prototypes. $30 gets you either pair. (I'll try to get pictures up, but I can't find my camera cord.) One pair is black and green, the other is black and red. Both are 2 point armor.
(I also make a lot of boffers for people, but I'm not going to have time and materials at the same time between now and the October game (moving), sorry!)
