New Beginnings

Rohnan nodded her head. “Honestly I think you nailed it. It’s both formal and personal plus it lets them know not only who you are, but who you associate with. It should get you in the door at least.”

She stood up “I’m going to go pack for a bit if you need me” she waited at the door to be recognized out of the ward.

Content with her answer, Calan casually pulls out his materials for portraiture while Rohnan stands at the door. He knew full well what he was doing as he took his time gathering things . He needed to find the note book he had previously used to do some rough sketches of Gabriella in for reference. Roughly a minute and a half would pass before Calan burst out laughing at Rohnan’s expression. It was as if to say you little **** you think you’re so funny. Which in fact he did think.

“The ward recognizes you out.”

Calan continued to hum while he prepared to make the gift.

Rohnan gave one last look at Calan and stepped out of the room and the smirked, ‘Gabrielle and Calan siting in a tree. ABCDEFG’ she sang on the way to her room.

Calan sat back looking at his work, it was taking him longer than it normally would. Which was a fact that was annoying him. Perhaps he was just being too picky. There were things that needed to be altered still but it was good enough now that he could go to sleep for a bit. View attachment 2461

with arms, full Calan enters the house and makes his way to bed. he puts down everything. puts aside the eggs and the bottle from his hide away. Next he unrolls the banners and looks each of them over for any hint any detail he missed before.
"if only there was a ritual or spell to make you two speak," he said quietly as he exited the house to re-hang them. satisfied with their positioning he lingered to look at them while his mind trailed off in thought.

Rohnan quietly approached the house, admiring the banners being rehung. It felt good to see them back in their proper place. Even if their presence brought back some of the unease that she just finished working out. Her hand went to the gold raven skull that she wore around her neck and she zipped it up and down the chain thinking while she stepped up onto the veranda. She looked at Calan trying to decide if she should disturb his thoughts. In the end she decided to speak, “Come on, it’s about time to head inside.”

Rohnan entered the house and fell asleep in her own bed. And had the strangest but best dreams that she could remember.

weeks went by, Calan had managed to send off his letters and painting. his search for Jinn had been fruitless. calan sat on the porch looking out into the forest trying to consider where he might be able to fall through the mist to go and find him.

Calan leaves the porch and walks into the lux.

Rohnan climbed the steps to the home and eyed the door. No ward. It was good for her as she could just go in, but it probably meant that Jinn still wasn’t back yet and that worried her. It’s been almost two months now and he was only supposed to be gone for a few weeks. She pushed the door open and walked to her room. The house was warm the others were probably around then. Or at least Phal was. Calan had promised that he wouldn’t run off without her but that was a promise that she only trusted him to keep as long as it was convenient for him. She placed he bag down on the bed and took off her cloak. She started removing items and looked around the room to gather things that she might need. And a few things that had sentimental importance. When she was done she went over to the desk and wrote out a letter. Hopefully it would never be delivered to it’s recipient, but just in case she felt that it was appropriate. She fell folded the letter and started writing a second, really it was just delivery instructions for the first. She left the two letters on the desk. The right person would find it if she didn’t run into them first to tell them. After double checking everything she put her cloak back on and headed out the door. A nice night at the tavern before she headed off again was needed.

Rohnan climbed the steps of the small house and shook the snow off of her cloak and kicked what she could off of her shoes before entering the home. When she did get inside she hung the cloak up and took a seat and got comfortable as she waited for the others to do the same. This was so much harder when she was the one proposing the bad ideas instead of discouraging them.

Phalaenopsis was right behind Rohnan, although he was perhaps more thorough about clearing himself of snow, especially the scarf he had wrapped around his head to keep the snow and cold off of his horns; it was his first Winter with them, and while he had mostly desensitized them to random bumps over the last 8 months, the cold was something he continued to struggle to deal with. For his part, he privately chalked it up to spending the better part of 2 centuries as a Dryad.

He set his box on the table, and took a brief detour to put his book on his bed before taking a seat next to Rohnan.

Calan was lagging behind the others, there was something about the falling snow that made him both happy and sad. He felt this warmth inside him but could not for the life of him recall why. times like this frustrated him. he was never sure if it was one of his own memories that he now could not remember or if it was a partial memory that he had taken on. He missed Jinn, who would have some sort of sassy remark to distract him. Calan looked at the snow falling over the banners on the porch, he thought back to the month he and Jinn had spent in the library sketching up designs. A chill sets into Calan's bones so he decides to continue onward and steps up onto the porch where he brushes the snow off of his clothes alongside Phalaenopsis.
