New Player with old questions

I plan on making it out to your May game next week and I had a few questions about weapons and shields.

I play in other LARPs and the SCA so I know that part of the answer to my questions will be "We make no guarantees until we inspect it." Still, I wanted to at least get a sense of what to bring, what I can possibly modify, and what to leave at home.

Swords: I have the standard round foam, but I also have two longswords from Forged Foam. They are similar to https://www.forgedfoam.com/?product=winged-longsword-gold-41 and https://www.forgedfoam.com/?product=green-leaf-guard-42 . Have similar style weapons passed for Alliance in the past?

Shield: So I have your standard "sled shield". It is covered in fabric and the core is one of the foam sleds sold at any Meijer come Christmas time. It does not have pipe foam around the edges, but the shield itself IS foam, so any LARP I have taken it to it has passed but I wanted to check with your rules.

Any insight is appreciated and I look forward to next Friday.

Those look like beautiful weapons!
I am not a fighter so I cannot say one way or the other and as you rightly said inspection is key!

As soon as you get there ask Ian- our Logistics Guru - who can inspect the weapons -there usually a marshal passing through or was just there most of check in who will look them over !

I appreciate that you understand our need to inspect them and thank you for sending pictures

Hi Matt,

Looking forward to having you at game!

Kick board shields, like the one you describe are typically fine, provided they meet size requirements:

"The longest dimension of a shield cannot exceed 36 inches. The maximum area of a shield is 531 square inches (a 26 inch diameter circle)."

Round foam swords, with 5/8" padding and non-metal cores, are also typically okay as long as they fall into a size category.

Latex Weapons from forged foam are a grey space in the rules, sometimes they can not have enough "give", but we tend to allow them until they prove to be a problem (read: the plot team who does most of the NPCing are masochists).

Don't be too worried if your weapons don't work out for your first event, we are happy to loan you some to facilitate your weekend.

Heya!

My name Kyler, and will be playing Emric. I have a small armory or loaner weapons, as well as I “work” at an in-game store called “The Dragon Hoard”, which has even more loaner gear as well as loaner in-game items. We will be bringing a ton of stuff anyways, but if you tell us what you want ahead of time we can try and make sure we have exactly that.
