Of NPC's and Elves

Soo....as an NPC do we come dressed in costume as well? Or will masks, etc. be provided according to what is needed? Also, do we get bedding assignments in the same manner as PC's?

Also... the character I was thinking of creating (for my later PC-ing at a future event) would be the daughter of an elf and human, is this possible?

Any info would be awesome :D Very much looking forward to my first LARP this April!

Welcome! As to your questions :

NPC camp will usually provide everything you need to NPC, costume wise, but anything you bring with can come in handy and give you more options, so isn't a bad thing. They usually have an assigned cabin for the NPCs at most games, check with your local plot team for details.

As far as a child of an elf and a human, it is quite possible. However, the way the races in Alliance work means that such a child would be strictly of one race, most likely elf or human, as there are no half-races of any sort.

It's true, if you are a "half breed", you take on all aspects of one of the parent races, and everything else is Roleplay only, and can never be the result of **** or incest or anything like that. I had a half-elven character at one time, he was an elf but I never spent any build on any of the Resist Command racial skills, to reflect his non-pure elven bloodline, but he did have a bow. That was totally my choice and not enforced by anyone or anything rules-wise or plot-wise, I just liked the concept and went with it, so if you chose to you could do the same thing or go completely elven complete with all racial traits and no one will look at you funny one way or the other, be who you wanna be!

If you NPC, you won't be playing the same character all weekend; you'll be changing constantly! We'll provide the basic costumes, but you should bring black sweat pants and shirts and so on to wear under the stuff we will give you.

If you're playing at Faire Play, we don't really have NPC beds yet. You can sleep in the barn, but bring an air mattress and blankets and so on, or you can bring a tent and set it up outside.

What chapter will you be playing in? Accomidation differ from chapter to chapter as the facilities at each camp are different. This of course can dramatically change what you should be bringing to sleep. Some places you only need a sleeping bag and pillow while others you should bring a tent and all the other camping stuff that would be typical.

Npcs should at least bring some non-descript clothing to wear (preferably black, no logos or brand names visible). This allows customization with what your local NPC camp has on hand.

We will be joining the HQ location. :D Which is Montrose, PA, correct?

Thanks for all the info. I've started collecting a bag of goodies/props to bring just incase.

Welcome!

As far as NPC camp goes at HQ, you will make sure you want to bring black clothing, non logo. You will also want a good pair of boots, as our terrain is far from flat.

I also would recommend layers for the April event (if that's the one you're NPCing) since Montrose has a tendency of being a little colder than here for me in NJ.

A lot of people set up small tents in the barn area. Its sheltered area, but a lot of people find it convenient for them.

I'm sure other people will also pipe in on the things I've forgotten...

But, once again, welcome :)

Id like to extend a big welcome to the totally insane side of a pretty insane game. Once you go black... ok thats going to be dirty no mater how I finish it. NPCing is good times.

Bring a tent. Little know fact: It can rain indoors in the HQ npc camp if its cold enough. Besides, its much more convenient to change in there then the bathrooms.

The roof has been fixed, so raining indoors is not really a worry anymore. However we do have lots of bats. We love the bats. They eat the flies and other bugs that used to be pretty rampant in the barn, and they're cool little critters. However bats come with guano.

In addition the barn is not heated, and a small tent will help to keep you warmer in the chilly spring nights. A large tent however won't be any good for warmth, and becomes cumbersome in the "tent city" that springs up in NPC camp.

On the subject of warmth, a few things of note:

LAYERS - both clothing and blankets. Unless you have an arctic rated mummy bag, you'll want an extra blanket or two in addition to your sleeping bag - remember to put layers both above and below you. You'd be amazed how much heat gets pulled from your body if the bottom isn't insulated. An air mattress, cot or camp pad is highly recommended as well, as otherwise you're sleeping on the floor. When layering clothing remember your legs too - I'm always floored by how many people will wear like 5 layers on their torso but only a single pair of pants and wonder why they're still cold. If you have underarmour, long johns or something in that vein, that's perfect.

SOCKS - cold, wet feet will suck the life out of you faster than a vampire. Whether it's from splashing in a puddle or just regular sweat, this will make you feel 10x colder. If you notice you're cold and can't seem to get warm, go change your socks. Bring at least 3 pairs per day; more if your footwear isn't really geared for hiking/outdoor activity.

BASICS - food and water. We endeavor to have snacks and water for the NPCs but it's all based on what people donate, and sometimes we just plain don't have enough, so make sure you have at least a small personal stash. If you'd like to donate to the shared snack pool you will certainly get goblin stamps for your contribution. Trail foods like granola bars and jerky are great as they will fuel you without needing refrigeration. We always have hot water going so instant foods like oatmeal or cup o noodles is also good. Water or gatorade will keep you from dehydration. And yes you can get dehydrated in the cold. In fact that's another leading cause of not being able to warm up. HQ does have a catering service for breakfast and dinner. All players (including NPCs) can order meals to be served in the tavern. Breakfast is $5 each day and dinner is $10. This must be paid on Friday night as all the food needs to be pre-ordered. Check out the HQ out-of-game section of the boards here for more details.

Doing these small things and ensuring your creature comforts make it much easier to have a good time. No matter how cool the game it's tough to get into it if you're cold, tired and hungry.

Actually, the NPC roof still has some leaks, though not nearly as many. We will be having it fixed again this spring.
