Last week saw the ugly prospect of a civil war threaten to once again to overtake our nation. A monster posing as one of our own Dukes tried to tear apart our Ducal Council, attacking and discrediting some, enslaving others and turning the others against the adventurers, our most versatile defense against the darkness.
Yet despite the plans this Worm wove over months and years while it inhabited Robert Turnsen, he did not succeed in breaking us apart. He made the mistake of underestimating our resolve, as the adventurers stood united against him, in the protection of Wayside's citizens. And so the Worm was defeated: when he came to gloat over his victory, he found instead that he had been undermined at every turn. He found Wayside's defenders standing firm, and was crushed at what he thought was his moment of triumph.
For that, the Ducal Council has the adventurers of Westhaven to thank:
Lord Enan Bluewater, for the ritual needed to destroy the worm, and his compatriot Arkimedes for helping him to empower it.
Lady Liddia FallingStar, for her tome of knowledge collected over months and years detailing the enemy we faced.
Sam Gemclipper, for working to uncover deeds carried out in the worm's name.
Ser Foss Siril, my fiance, for his tireless and stalwart leadership.
Cupbearer Eldandiril Zanabanath, who worked at great personal risk to bring secret plans to light.
... And many others, who fought a long and difficult battle to bring the false Duke to justice.
