September 2014 Event: Best Moments, Quotes

Favorite moments thread for the September event!

I'll start:
  • "I have an announcement!" (pause) "Sir Egil is buying a round of drinks for everyone in the tavern!"
  • Hunter mod (even just from the point of view of sitting against a tree outside the mod while it happened). And the flashing lightning and rumbling thunder that began right as the PCs walked up to the building, for extra atmosphere.
  • Being a coyote-kin. All the roleplay I experienced as Sagebrush. So much good in-depth emotive RP that I don't get very often as an NPC!
  • "Shun all non-elves!" and the Baroness screaming her way towards the Healer's Guild.
  • "Haven't you peed on half the trees in Acarthia?"
    "I've been drinking a lot of water!"
    "Does that mean they're yours now?"
  • Every single cavern mod. For every single group. Watching people navigate the pillars in various ways was fantastic. The tension, banter, creativity, and hijinks in general that surrounded that mod had me fascinated and/or in stitches with laughter.
  • Discussions of ethics and legalities and problem-solving around Shani's dilemma.
  • Prince Kendrick. XD
  • "What happens in the circle, stays in the circle."
  • Story time at the Mages Guild meeting! And teaching time! And poking crystalline Phinneas! And really just every interaction I had with the mages. You are all fantastic.
  • The expression upon the sarr's face in the bird mod. "I WANT TO EAT IT." New sarr PC was absolutely delightful.
I feel like I missed seeing so much this event because I was too sick for combat, and so had to stick to roleplay and marshalling.. but on the other hand, I got to have way more roleplay with folks than usual, which was lovely.
 
This was my first event as a PC and I had an amazing time its such a different experience and the NPC's and PC's did a wonderful job bringing New Acarthia to life.
My list:

  • Getting to meet so many other players in character for the first time was wonderful.
  • After the first elemental battle Friday night having Dame Katherine comment on hearing my slay made me blush :p
  • The healers guild meeting! I was not going to go but another PC suggested I should and I am so glad I did ( this was a huge amount of great RP for me)
  • Both parts of the hunter mod I attended. Everyone involved was great from the other PCs to the NPC's I really felt a sense of menace until he was taken in for justice. Also Viras method of chest disarming was awesome!
  • RP out front the tavern during the rain storm was some great conversation. Squire Noah: "Your eyes look so hungry and menacing in this light" Me: "Actually I'm smiling" :D
  • Lunch with Tiatar down in lucky circle and delivering a late lunch to Tinder. I was a bear carrying a picnic basket :p
  • Helping the new Sarr, Steffania fend off the pantherghast with Sir Morningtide and pinning us in place as a living wall "Well I guess were stuck here for a few more minutes!"
  • Baron Daruis introducing me to Dame Arikaya during the healers guild meeting! I felt honored to fight alongside her and the other member of squad Chimera during the town battles!
  • Ohh one last one! Many thanks to all the humans I interviewed for my healers guild aspirant task. Conner, Sir Egil, Anders, Calidan, and Squire Graham!

Thanks Everyone for making my first event as a PC a marvelous experience! I really look forward to visiting New Acarthia with you all again!

Oh also this is the short list! There were so many moments that gave me goose bumps or made me smile I'm sure I'll never remember them all but I will remember how good I felt being there with y'all!
 
Probably no surprise, but for me it was the hunter mod, hands down and everything surrounding it. The hunter is/was my first real arch-nemesis and when David brought it to life last year, the character was instantly one I knew was going to be something I pursued relentlessly. I can't say specifically why lest I give away anything, but he was sort of a psychological war for Lagarde that was a lose-lose to face him, no matter the outcome. Having the chance to try to get to him, the support & backing from the other players, the wonderful setup, the great storm timing, etc was stellar. Getting to face down my nemesis to avenge a friend was beyond words. Even more than the mod itself, the roleplay that came out of that situation was incredibly emotionally intense. To be entirely honest, in 14 years of LARPing, this event easily reaches #1 for me roleplay-wise largely thanks to Dani, David, and Emily.

Some specifics of things I loved about this event:
  • "I have an announcement"...there's more to that scene than Egil buying a round obviously, but...ack.
  • Personal interactions with so many PCs and NPCs.
  • The reactions of other PCs when Lucian and Lagarde would go to chat privately.
  • The intense hunter mod and duel.
  • Crying in the rain talking to a friend.
  • Tough fights over and over. I fought less and yet hurt so much more this event because of intensity.
  • "We keep all the power of the cosmos in Lagarde's sock drawer, under the dirty socks."
  • [to Lagarde] "Why are you bringing a knight?", [Lagarde] "Because we need an adult.", [to Lagarde] "But...daaaaw...do we hafta?"

Wow, so many possibilities here. This was probably my most favorite event to date.
  • The duel that I had against the orc in the life elemental mod. I'm not sure who it was playing the orc, but wow was it fun fighting you. It might have been my most tense moment in a fight yet in Alliance.
  • Our "stealth" mission on Saturday night. I felt like we finally pulled off a stealth mission successfully (I guess this had happened also once before I started Alliance). Noah and Inaki did an amazing job hiding in the woods trying to get intel. Sir Egil and his crew were in the perfect spot to join the fight once our group rolled up on them. No one got away which is really rare it seems like for us and also no deaths.
  • The rescue on the road to lucky circle. We weren't sure if it was a setup or not, but I felt like once we decided it wasn't, we rolled out. Squire Graham came running in and took control of the front line pushing the enemies back. I tossed some liquid light, made sure those that were down got healing right away and Zak and I cover the kobolds that were attacking from the back. Once again it felt like we actually made a difference and saved some lives.
  • Rivervale dinner time. What a relaxing/bonding experience for our whole family and those that joined us. The rain kept us under the shelter and not venturing out, but that was okay.
  • My conversation with Sir Jared about knighthood down in Greenwood Circle. It was something that I had wanted to do for a while but didn't think it would be able to happen this event. I'm so glad I fit it in.
  • Great awesome fights all around that felt dangerous and fun. I think the towns teamwork has gotten better and better over time. I think it showed this event.
  • Seeing the Scions of Valarion come out strong to this gather and represent themselves well. It was so great seeing so many Scions out and about all day long.
  • The seance that Ilyvana did contacting the Goblin ancestors. Totally unexpected and amazing RP all around from the marshall, NPCs and PCs.
I'm sure there are many more, but that's what I could think of off the top of my head.
 
I am incapable of short lists, but awesome at forgetting stuff I loved when I do these lists.

-Tough fights Friday night: Each big elemental fight I started with: 16 body, 35 armor, 5 shield armor, 5 bless body. Between Jesse's hoary NPC and then Casey's hoary NPC, I was hanging on by 1 body left both times. These fights were rough, well statted and very enjoyable. Like overall this weekend, I went through 4 blesses, and 5 shield scrolls. Whoa I need to restock now.
-Bro time. I had "bro time" (not limited to male PCs either, just the best term I can think of) with several PCs this weekend, that was very awesome to just kinda do the knight/adventurer/soldier/warrior stuff. Good times.
-Duchess Time: I am really enjoying the new direction with the Duchess, and it's helped us isolate the "Why are we here once a month?" question and answer it. I shared that idea/revelation with several PCs, and if it's the right angle, I think it's gonna make what we do in New Acarthia that much more meaningful.
-Chaos stone shenanigans: While I helped write some of this, I've really enjoyed the roleplay out of the players in the resultant insanities, and the effect it's had on what-to-do on it. Like seriously, the reactions of the players on multiple levels made this SEVERELY enjoyable to watch.
-Vira/Eldred/Alis/Skeld/Tinder mod team: You guys were awesome in both fighting and roleplaying while we waited, I really enjoyed doing all of that with our crew!
-Troll mod: The RP of the Troll whom we told was helping carry the cart back to town due to attacking us was awesome.
-Cat Mod: The confusion on what to do, and trying to figure out what was right in terms of letting the cats eat their hunted prize but not killing mom+kids was awesome. Vira throwing the string for the cats was hillarious. I enjoyed getting to mod with that crew too! Thank you for inviting Briana and I.
-Two Epic Panthergasts: The Dryad Panthergast (Go Tinder!) and the Sarr Panthergast (Go Steffiana!) fights were freakin epic to watch.
-Bucks "Courting" Vira: I had way too many laughs over this, and Eldred and Frank playing Good Cop/Bad Cop to deal with them was great. Vira hiding in the mage guild "They gone yet?" with the HUGE laughing grin on Billy's face is like stuck in my memory permanently.
-Hunter Mod: I wasn't sure how this was gonna go but it was freakin awesome from the way the PCs handled it, to Lagarde's revenge duel. It was creepy in there too, the wylderkin head over the fireplace, and other trophies made it really scenic along with the thunder and lightning. "They really upped the budget for special effects this event!"
-Chaos Elemental Fight: This was pretty damn awesome, and I freakin hate chaos. The opportunity to utilize my throwing weapons a LOT cause it was strategically viable was awesome. I saw a lot of good cooperation between the PCs in that fight, that was really cool.
-Personal RP scenes: I got to connect with a lot of PCs this weekend and get to know them better, talk serious stuff and pal around. Really enjoyable, I love that many players have put a lot of depth into their characters.
-Food was awesome Kitchen Staff! Thank you so much for the gluten considerations again!
-Holy (bleep) NPCs. You guys did an amazing job with getting mods done, having crunchies out, providing perfectly challenging fights, fishbowls, providing RP at the drop of a hat, everything. Even the kitchen staff RPs. I'm totally pleased and impressed with all of you.

***Special thank you to Jonathan who plays Faren. Not to let out his secret, but he goes out and walks and scouts around for stuff a lot (And brings guards, don't get any funny ideas plot...). He shared mod locations with several groups for free, and only picked up some of the stuff he saw out in the field so others could find stuff too. I cannot say enough nice things about how generous and team-player both Jonathan is OOG, and Faren is IG. He can also RP awesome with depth too! Great PC and player to get to know.
 
Oh my gosh, an entire thread where I can gush?! Woo hoo! Thank you Dani; you are the bestest. :3 But where to start? I always have so many favorite moments. This event was especially poignant for personal character development, for me, and it was definitely a huge challenge for me as a player. I admit, I really had no idea what I was getting into when I pulled Alis from my subconscious and laid her down on paper. I really end these weekends thinking, "God, I hope I'm not the only one whose character speaks for herself, and then I'm left wondering where the hell that came from..." And thank you to Mike for the shout-out. :3 So, without further ado, here is my list:

-The not one, but -two- conversations I held with Ser Morningtide that went far too close into uncomfortable, not because they were arguments, but because of the explicit content; oh my!
-The moment when confidence in my ability to travel safely on the road was ripped from me, and Alis realized that she is, in fact, quite capable of feeling gut-wrenching terror.
-Watching the epic group fights go down, and finding myself regrettably noticed by the NPC fighters for the first time. My poor arm. ;)
-The numerous deep and philosophical discussions I got to take part in this weekend (much, I am sure, to Skeld's chagrin). A big thank you to those who took time to get to know Alis in a way even I didn't know her yet.
-The moment when Alis got genuinely angry for the first time. Such a shame it had to be at Baron Darius. Lol! At least it was only a tiny angry; much less dangerous than it's larger cousins.
-The moment when I realized Alis had made a friend in Frank, and trusted Vira implicitly, despite the advice against doing so.
-Seeing a side to Ser Morningtide that was both unexpected and mildly terrifying, when Alis tried to convince a goblin to change his ways by offering him a shiny gold, and Morningtide told the creature that he would do it not for gold, but simply because his life was a good reason. Alis, disapproving, gave the goblin the gold anyway, as subtly as she could; she's certain Morningtide saw her do it anyway. "My word is my bond."
-The chandler, who filled me with such delight as a player and I don't even know why. But I am so proud of my little candles.

I'm sure there are more. I'll add them later if I remember; my brain isn't working quite right. :P Either way, thanks to everyone as always for a great event!

What an amazing event for me. I deeply enjoyed the mods I was able to participate in and the personal RP with so many of you was great. A highlights list can't really express it all but here were a few.

  1. Navigating the pillars in the Mirror Mod despite the impending possible death from a fall. That mod was clever and challenging.
  2. Chivalry School, the discussion before I had to depart to Ambush some Wylderkin as an NPC was compelling and though provoking.
  3. Watching Steffania fend off the Panthergast and than playfully teasing our new Bearkin and Sir Morningtide about the results of the pin tactic.
  4. Prince Kendric...
  5. Seeing the enjoyment and RP that the Hunter mod generated.
  6. Tiatar Lunch
  7. Shun all Non-tiny food...
  8. Last but certainly not least all the spontaneous moments of roleplay with all of you...Thank you again!
 
Excellent event all around, particularly with the noticeably increased difficulty which really added to a sense of risk.

Stefanya and I had a fantastic time at our first ever LARP event. The Pantherghasts were great (I especially enjoyed the Stef's encounter with the Sarr one: "I summon a Lighting Bolt; I summon a Lightning Bolt; I summon a friggin Lightning Bolt!!!") It took us about a day or so to get into character but once we did we really had a good time. Everyone was welcoming and encouraging, (not just in helping Stef with the Pantherghast:) but patient as we tried to grasp the rules and acclimate to the culture. I had many great conversations both in character and out, especially with my fellow MWE's.
Many thanks to the Scions and Rivervale for welcoming us into Greenwood. We are really looking forward to the Oct gathering!
 
This was a really solid event, first some thank yous (to mostly NPCs/polt) -
  • I have no idea where David gets the energy to run around like he does. You never seem winded man, please tell us your secret!!!
  • Thank you to Jack (and the staff) for the amazing tavern work, food (omg the quiche sat morning... wow... and the cheese... and the apple crisps!!!)
  • Thank you to my fellow PCs who helped tidy the tavern sat night! (I tried not to be a schlep this game)
  • Thank you to Salvia who continues to remain calm in the face of a million people crowing her face.
  • Thank you to Jenn who (I think) pulled some serious all-nighters to give us IBGA replies!
  • Thank you to Baron Menko for the RP!
  • Thank you to Jesse who continues to put together an A++ LARP. There is a ton of work that goes into this, and I seriously appreciate the wonderful world we get to play in once a month :)

And now to the PCs, my shoutouts -
  • Thank you in While the rain was mostly a PITA to folks, it gave me the opportunity to watch the storm roll in while chatting with the Scions over dinner, and then have a long really heartfelt scene with Sir Egil. (Mike your genuine facial expressions were awesome)
  • Sitting around, listening tot he pitter patter of the rain discussing the Fae with Lucian, Tinder, Ilvana and William
  • Tiatar Lucky Circle Lunch (Will be doing that again for sure!)
  • Finding out that Tim (the groundskeeper) actually heard my scream running from the Pander (I mean PANTHER) gast.
  • "Shun all non elves" - the moment of "oh ****" as I bolted and ran for the healer's guild screaming bloody murder and yelling Eldred's name.
  • Tinder Kiting the Panthergast, and then kicking it's *** all on her own. (while the town cheered for her)
  • I love that the PCs cheered for Tinder and our new Sarr because they had to face the NPC on their own. That's the kind of community that makes me happy. (ICly and OCly)
  • Loved the Friday night battle w/ the elementals and the sense of urgency with it.
  • I got to fight in a squad! (Hyrda under Noah) I don't do much fighting (by my own choice), but I got to do the archer line again, and that makes me so happy.
  • Beef Jerky time with Laguard, and then Erikia and Darius
  • Realizing the tiles were chaos symbols....
  • "So how about November" - Sir Morningtide finally picking a date.... (expect to see more info on that soon)
  • The beautiful girl hug down by NPC camp with Erikia and Katherine
  • My healer's Guild shift going to hell.... AGAIN.
  • Tiatar. I heart you guys.
  • Going through more arrows than sense and the realization that I only had a few spells left.... oops.
  • Actually getting to discuss Acarthian History!
  • 45 minutes with Ilvanya chatting about her lands and ours while we listened to Dame Katherine's Chivalry school (which provided a beautiful example of why Acarthian Nobles are exemplary).
  • Ty and Puck as my archer buds. (And Noah doing a nice job of being a Wylderkin sheild)
  • Squire Yarrow putting me in the Healer's Guild and making me promise to stay put. (For those that dont' know I am easily distracted....)
  • Tiatar goes to great lengths to make sure I have an escort and am never alone. While I may give them a hard time about it ICly, it's heartwarming how much concern my awesome team really shows for my PC. :) <3
  • Chatting with Alis
  • A couple times this game, we heard shouting from the parking lot or from Lucky Circle. Many of us would run to the top of Cardiac Hill adn attempt to assess the situation. Those tense moments of silence as we listened intently for what was going on were the sort of vigilance, that I appreciate about our PCs - New Acarthians look out for their own.

I'd just like to start by saying this is only the second LARP group I've ever really participated in, and I am enjoying it FAR more than I ever have in the past, which I believe I can chalk up to you wonderful people. As I stated in my intro thread post I've never been great at really getting into a character's mindset, but you all present a colorful and immersive environment to try and do so. I'm hoping once I finalize my character back story and have more to draw on, I can build an even more nuanced and interesting character.

For this weekend, the things that stick out in my mind:

1) Experiencing the first moment of actually inhabiting the mindset of this character and throwing all form of inhibition to the wind late on Friday night when Kobolds (I believe) invaded the Lucky Circle camp. Unfortunately this took the form of incoherent rage and shouting, but hey, you have to start somewhere. (One of these days Skeld is going to fly into a full zerk and I'll be challenged with trying to call damage in a normal voice all while trying to sustain a throat-tearing battle roar while fighting.)

2) The awesome time had modding with Frank, Vira, Tinder, Eldred, and Alis on Saturday. I felt so woefully unprepared, learned a LOT, and really just enjoyed the group dynamics out there. On a related note, an offhand comment generating the visual of fighting with Vira riding atop my shoulders with her spear couched like a lance.

3) The various conversations had and semi-angrily pointing out how everyone is so blithely referring to barbarians AS barbarians, despite it being a derogatory term.

4) Contributing simple yet poignant truths to some "discussions" (for as much as Skeld is capable of them) regarding the apparent absoluteness of noble authority with Dame Katherine, Baron Darius, and Baroness Elavir.

5) Getting utterly and hopelessly ROLLED by a roadside ambush.

6) Apple mini-pies. Pie-cups? Cupies? I'm inspired to make a pecan version of these just to see how it comes out. Hell, ALL the food was great! Thanks!

*edit* 7) Learning exactly how the pander/panther/whateverghasts work... and coming to a stark realization that I am one of two barbarians on site, the other is a pacifist... and I have no silver or magical weaponry.

All in all I can't wait for the next one. Actually no, I can. I need the time to assemble my sorely needed armor and completely remake my sword.

Where to start? Where to end? As lists tend to work fairly well, I'll put my thoughts into those.


· MWE targeting Panthergast. The Friday night fight by myself was a level of intensity that was a bit staggering. Poor Lucian dropped about six times before being carried off of the field and it gave a great feeling of "sometimes you can't win". Special points to Anders for the cross-field toss of a magic armor that lasted about 3 seconds.

· Special thanks to Jenn for the IG Duchess / OOG Jenn helping me with a stitch in my side from too much fighting. I really enjoy the conversations I've had with her Grace.

· The Fae conversations with Tinder, Ilvana, Elavir and Pip with the rain in the background.

· "I'd just likely wake up in a healing circle without my pants." "How often has that happened?" "A few."

· Discussing points of Lucian's history and dodging the question if he's telling the truth.

· Helping Pip plant one of the "baby" Dryads. That was really a great little touch.

· Threatening Lagarde that if he convinced anyone else to startle the paranoid Squire Brom, Lucian would make sure he was wearing a red belt by the end of the day. The reaction was priceless.

· On the tone of reactions, apparently Lucian and Lagarde cannot have a private conversation for more than a minute before suspicion runs too high.

· Mint addiction isn't a game.

· Tiatar Lunch!

· "By having this, you are more susceptible to lighting." "I was wearing it during the lighting elemental fight!"

· That quiet moment when everyone went in their groups away from the tavern leaving just a few people behind. It was so quiet with the rain and oh so eerie.

· Breaking formation to help someone and facing the repercussions of it.

· "You have to meet Uncle Lucian!" Every time I heard that, I smiled.

· Tiatar 2 cabin in Lucky Circle. Great location which had a nice feeling of separation from the noble establishment.



Overall, each game helps me refine Lucian from an outline and a story into a personality and presence. I enjoy each interaction as your IG world-view and mine get to mix and build the overall arc of a story that fleshes out each moment. Rivalry, friendships, alliances and deals are beautiful to watch grow and develop. I've found a hobby that I'm really enjoying.

-- I think the Life Elemental mod ended up being one of my favorite "and then peace broke out" roleplay moments so far. I had a fun time trying to get into the mindset of a creature that has fundamentally non-human-and-et-cetera priorities.

-- The roleplay in the Water Elemental encounter was also really neat with all the damp ominousness, and the location was surprisingly effective at evoking a cave/pool/lair atmosphere.

-- I've decided that one of my stock roles is that of the "information pinata" -- you hit me with sticks, I spew out tasty bits of data.

-- Rob the Easily Frightened Thief probably should have had his guidance counselor mention swords to him when he did his career preference inventory. I need to work on my extended prisoner interactions, and generally on cases where things end up going much further than I'd thought the character out for. Still, the threats were very tasty and hopefully I will get to do that with a somewhat less lawn-chair-like character in the future.

-- *rustle?* "Are there PCs in the woods?" *RUSTLE: NOW IN SURROUND SOUND*

-- The wave battles were all really neat, but I think I liked the orcs one the best. Having the shield wall / flankers / squishy throwers arrangement is a nice bit of variety (at least when one often does the herd of two claw critters). Also there will be more of me doing the archery, oh yes.

-- Saturday dinner. And also the food. And then going back to NPC camp and explaining what I had done.

-- On that note, I have to admit to taking a certain amount of perverse glee in people's reactions to the Wig That Cannot Be Unseen. Just for the record, y'all, that is fairly close to how I actually look with long hair.

-- There were a lot of neat moments in the final wave battle, but I particularly liked watching the swarm-of-bees bit at the end. That was epic.
 
There were so many things I loved this past weekend.

- Sapling planting. Figuring out which attributes fit which PC and having multiple backups for each one.

- Lovely RP to explain to each person chosen for planting duties and watching the reactions to my explanations. Then getting each planting story as they finished. This was an amazing quest. I especially loved how PLOT made it rain after the last sapling was planted ;-P

- Staring down the Dryad Pantherghast from inside the healer's circle. Yeah was not about to touch that one.

- Laughing over Prince(ess) Kendrick and Anders' antics at the door to the Healer's Guild.

- Trying to get the pig farmer to explain WHY the pig was his prized pig.

- Watching how rumors grew among the PC's.

- Playing Lady Miranda and having a long conversation with Dame Catherine.

- Long discussion with Baron Darius on his experiences with the Darkness and how it has affected both him and everyone he has resurrected.
 
After Fernash's post, I have to add...
- Carrying a shovel through town and refusing to say why...and asking people to always walk in front of me. ;-)
 
First off, as I get into this, I want to say thank you to everyone. I had a blast, and I definitely blame all of y'all.

Now, I am a firm believer that some secrets must be kept. When one goobs about everything epic that happened, we lose the element of surprise that makes for truly phenomenal roleplay. That said, I had a number of excellent moments that I can comment on.

* Prince Kendrick:
- He said: When did this happen?
- I said: Two or three months ago.
- He said: Prince Kendrick, Sir, two or three months ago! (Followed by something about this being the way that you address a prince).
I stared for a moment, processing that as Tinder, before repeating him word for word, with a mild tone of contrition to my voice. (Sometimes, 'tis better to go with crazy than to argue with it). Prince Kendrick proceeded to lecture Egil using my 'fine manners' as an example. That whole sequence of events was just funny as hell.

* That moment, when I needed a Wall spell, and suddenly realized I didn't have one. Because Tinder was fully battle operational.
* That moment, when I heard the words "dryad" and "pantherghast" (however you spell it) said in the same sentence, where I suddenly realized that it was a good thing Tinder was fully battle operational.

* I had lots of pantherghast this weekend. For me, this was more than a little challenging. I know this, because there are swaths of my encounter with the dryad one that I honestly don't remember. Such as, I recall hauling a** up the hill toward the healer's guild in order to get the light I needed to read a scroll. I also recall kiting through people. I do not recall David hauling a** after me, but I'm told this is what was happening. Regardless, I am not accustomed to being the person facing off with the big bad on my own, so this was equal parts awesome and heart stopping for me. To the Sarr chick, I totally feel you, hon.
* Related to that, walking out of the Mage guild the first time, to face my pantherghast, only to have the one that appeared in front of us say, "Shun all non-elves!" Elavir was in front of me, beside Brom, and there was no one else anywhere nearby. What followed was also dipped in epic. I wish I could cut the image I have in my mind of Ray as Eldred charging down that hill, bent full-tilt forward, eyes fixed on the 'ghast, and paste it here. Everything in that moment was picture perfect. Then watching the two sword-wielding elves deal with it. Wow. Just... wow. (Long-haired elf guy whose name I never caught - you were just as brilliant even without being able to damage the 'ghast).

* Mage geekery! OMGs, there was a lot of it this weekend, and it was good.
* My IC conversation with the mystic wood elf archer contrasting earth magic to celestial magic - also dipped in awesome. I really enjoyed that interaction.
* "What happens in the circle stays in the circle!" Tinder concurs. Whatever is happening in the circle should stay in the circle. (Also, Anira and Anders giggling - not laughing, giggling - at the same time is a terrifying thing).
* Prisoners - Firebee, you were fun. I mean, really... you were fun. And I think that NPC playing off of Anira and Anders confused Tinder in so many - soooooooo many - wrong ways.
* Mage morals - they are definitely different than everyone else's. (Re, Phineas).

* Battle for the Ogres against Dargok's Own - Dude, quiet dryad. The look on the faces in front of me when you ran down the line calling waylays was... Again, just wow.

* Early morning modding - I got to observe some very interesting character contrasts; also, I got to watch Eldred drag a cart back to town for a farmer alongside a barbarian. Great roleplay to everyone in that modding crew. It was a lot of fun.
* Afternoon modding - I hike. I do not jump. I understand that people who followed us acquired wood and crossed by balance. I took off my corset and leaped. I actually have the bruise on my knee to prove it (from the landing I knew was going to fail while I was in the air, and therefore pitched forward so that most of my body was on the mattress). I have found the physicality that this game requires interesting since I started playing it, and the creative ways that it continues to come up entertains me greatly. (Thank you, Jesse, for your patience with our slow problem solving - it was _really_ slow).

* Every chest that exploded - I laughed.

Finally, one last thank you to everyone who took the time to roleplay with me. I had so many small moments that were just good, and though I can't be at game until Saturday next month, I am truly looking forward to more play with everyone.
 
-Modding with a couple different groups over the course of the weekend. Haven't intentionally modded actually before this so it was nice that it worked out good. Thanks to everyone I modded with! Sorry for blowing that one trap tho.

-Walking on tables trying to coach the new sarr during the Sarr pantherghast issue. Not really helping all that much but...table walking!

-The Stag fishbowl. Good grief I couldn't have ditched that any smoother if I tried. Good job ****-blocking folks, ***-pats all around. Please let those be re-occurant characters. The game needs some 'Bro' archtypes in it's NPC repetoire hangin out at the bar sometimes and those would be perfect.

-Tree planting. That is my tree. It will conqure many shrubs. This is the tree by wich all other trees will be judged. (Watch it will probably be dead by next game... 9_9; )

-Being encourageing... the vira way.

As an aside- I hope everyone knows the incredible mean-ness is strictly In-character. If I yelled at you, called you something or were otherwise aweful to you this weekend, by no means do I mean it OOC. The character is just a pain in the ***. Its for a reason! but still a pain in the ***.

Greetings! Late to the show but, you know, school work...

Overall a pretty good weekend for me. What follows is but a few of the moments I was apart of. Please take no offense if I spell a name wrong or forget something... it is not intentional I swear :-)

-First field battle to rescue Skagrak. Wow. Awesome encounter from all angles. Brom (me) got to lead a squad for this battle per Dame Ericaya's generous offer and man did I have fun doing so. I got to run with a regular, Aneira, and a handful of new PCs. Abtus, the ever useful battle-bear, Azarel, the awesome elf with alchemy, and later on Nix, newest member of the Vigilant. We all worked great as a team and did our job well. Was an amazing encounter for me thanks to those follwing Brom. So, to the players who were with me, great job guys! Can't wait for future opportunities to run with y'all!

-Chivalry school. Trace picked an awesome set of topics and I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue exchanged that day. Squire Walze especially impressed Brom with his knowledge of law and overall ability to really work through a situation and break it down. Also, it was the first real time that Brom and Squire Noah had a difference of opinion. It was neat and refreshing to know that the two squires are developing differently despite both being apart of the same court. I can't wait to see how this further plays out in the events to come!

-The archaeology dig mods. Wow. Great job Jesse and plot for setting these up. Thank you NPCs for your patience and talents in these mods as well. I ran it with Sir Osborne of Warchester, Tinder of Tiatar, Dame Ericaya of Bayenna, Squire Walze of Tiatar, and Andrew the Bard. It was great running with these people. Furthermore, it was awesome to get to problem solve through a difficult encounter and really have to struggle as a team to get through the encounter. Sir Osborne and Tinder were definitely the MVPs for us. Tinder softening up enemies with shatters while Sir Osborne whittled away at them with his polearm. Luckily we had rope and some endows which made the jumps across the platforms manageable. Great encounter!

-Sunday morning Chaos Stone elimination with Squire Noah. Had a great time running this with Eric (Squire Noah). Just 2 squires taking care of business in the wee hours of the morning. I had to chuckle as we went to talk to 3 different plot/NPC people about our chosen plan and getting an "Interesting!" from each one. Seriously, the first word out of Jesse, David and Quin when we described what we were going to do was "interesting". Nothing sends a shiver up a PC like hearing interesting uttered through a smile from plot. Turned out to not be so bad but holy hera it was a bit nervous at the beginning. The RP that came out of that was a lot of fun too. I get the sense that Brom will be reminded of jelly elementals for quite a long time...

-Waiting in the dead of night, sitting on wet leaf litter and dirt, for easily 50 minutes with Sir Osborne and Sir Egil while the planned ambush and capture of certain people was being implemented. Squire Noah and Inaki (Eric and Vincent respectively) was out there even longer with even less info then the 3 of us. Turned out to be a near flawless execution of the plan and made the wait well worth it IMHO. We caught those we wanted caught, we took very little (if any) damage, and even managed to round up the one that got away. Excellent work by all involved. Team-oriented encounters like this are arguably my favorite part of these events. Can't wait for future opportunities.

-At one point there were some harmless goblins worshiping at the altar of the elemental portal watched over by an armored goblin from the Tribe of Thou. The NPC's ability to emote was great first and foremost. Just simple fun watching them worship the shiny portal. What really got to me was the goblin watching over them. I sadly don't know the person playing the part but he was great. I very much enjoyed seeing a continuing and evolving plot point manifest itself again. Brom has personal interest in the Tribe of Thou, along side Sir Morningtide, so being able to personally take charge of the situation, help keep it from going south, and interacting with (and aiding in the understanding of the code of chivalry) was a great moment for Brom. Awesome job NPCs and awesome job plot for further enriching the game world we lose ourselves in!

-The last field battle. Again, wow. Dame Ericaya was with Brom this fight but still let him have command of the squad. Ever the generous knight she is :-) Ran with the same squad as with the Skagrak battle sans Aneira for various reasons. Again, holy crap I love that squad. It was great fun to once again have Brom fight by Ericaya's side while also helping new members to the town. I felt we operated as a squad very well. Cohesive, focused, informative and supportive. Y'all did a great job once again.

-Watching Tinder single handily beat down a Pantherghast (or however that is supposed to be spelled). Tinder has been great fun in the past but this was a new side of her that Brom has not seen. She is always resourceful and capable but the hustle exhibited here, alongside the cleverness displayed, was truly impressive. I have half-jokingly suggested getting a medal made for Tinder to commemorate the achievement. It was truly an awesome thing to see!

-All the NPCs I encountered were great but I want to give a special shout out to David. He played the part of Pantherghast awesomely and intelligently which challenged the PCs many times over. I tip my hat to you good sir!

These are but a handful of the awesome things that I experienced this last event. Each event Brom grows more and more which is such a great thing to experience. I love our community of players, PC and NPC alike, and truly marvel at the work and dedication put into this game by Jesse and Jen (and now Tim!). Big round of applause to everyone who showed up! Y'all make this game super-freakin'-great!

- My first mission with the Town Guard. It didn't go as I expected, but I am really looking forward to what comes next out of the plot!

- Chivalry School. It was interesting to discuss these moral issues - if you have to use necromancy to save the town, should you do it? (One thing I am interested in discussing in Chivalry School is the edict about killing the monster races. Certainly an edict that says you should kill sentient beings just because of their race doesn't seem very moral to me...)

- The discussion about how we are going to close the rift near the end. the only part I don't understand is - why do we want to close the rift in the first place? It is spitting out monsters and treasure. As adventurers, don't we live for monsters and treasure?

- When I got killed by the big fire elemental because I got too greedy and ran up past the front lines so that I could get the treasure from the other monster. I certainly learned my lesson from that one! (And even felt like a hypocrite IC, because my article in the Acarthia Times this event was about how you don't need treasure to have a good adventure...) It was a good thing someone had a life spell.
