Sewn Packets?

I played NERO Great Lakes back in the day, and then NERO Kalamazoo (Michigan), and am now playing Alliance South Michigan again after a long break. Back in my International days, I played in Dallas a few times and saw players using sewn spell packets. It looked like they started with a strip of fabric, folded it in half, then sewed up from the fold a couple of inches. They then turned them inside out, dumped the bird seed into the pocket, and added a small rubberband.

Does anyone still do this? Any "perfect dimensions" for such a spell packet? I remember doubting the utility of such a thing back in the day, but that went away when I saw that the smaller amount of fabric between the fingers allowed the carrying of many more packets in a caster's hand. Any experiences you could share on the best dimensions would be helpful.

Thanks!

Joe

I remember those packets. The ones I saw were kind of square so I doubted they would fit into a film canister. However everyone thought they 2were pretty cool, myself included, and I don't think anyone ever thought they violated the spirit of the rules. I would guess 1.5 inches per side of the squared packet but it is just a guess.

Hey Joe,

I used that same dimension from nerowest for the packets I donated for Somi. However, cutting strips of fabric first and sewing the sides is a whole lotta starting and stopping. My wife and I figured out a way to make them in bulk with a full cloth, folded in half. You pretty much mark the cloth, sew long seems in a checkerboard pattern. Then cut everything, and flip them inside out. It's a little more set-up, with the marking of the cloth. but you can do everything in stages without having to try and store 100 strips of cloth.

I will say my version isn't really worth it for 50 packets. If you were planng on making epic numbers of packets, let me know and I'll show you the template.
