Spots?

So most of the little symbols (next to post titles) are defined at the bottom of the page, but I'm not sure what two of them mean.
What looks like a little white asterisk in the top left corner, and what looks like a tiny arrow in the bottom right corner. Anybody know? I'm curious.
 
The dot in the upper left denotes a thread in which you have participated. The arrow in the lower right indicates a forum which has subforums.
 
I originally thought that that's what the spots in the corner meant, but then I noticed a number of threads that I had started that didn't have spots. Maybe those ones don't get them. *shrug*
 
Quite possibly that, or imported threads not getting them properly assigned.
