Hello Everyone!

As you may have seen, Emily and I are planning a pot-luck picnic for the June game.

We plan to have it at 1pm on Saturday, June 29. It will be held in the field by the lake (and Monster Camp)

We also have some activities planned for people to participate in as well.

Currently we have:
  • Swimming in the Lake
  • Egg Carrying/Tossing Contest
  • Possibly Twister

If you have any ideas or would like to run an activity please post here and let us know!

For the pot-luck portion of the picnic, we plan to provide some food ourselves. If you wish to help provide food or drink to share, please post here what you plan to bring, thank you!

As this would have to coord with NPC lunch, it'll be a whole lot of something. Possibly sandwiches. Possibly.

Gabe

This guy here will be doing fruit, likely grapes and apples!

My recommendation would be to hold the whole thing down by the lake. I know having the kitchen nearby would be handy but if we are doing a picknick anyways, being right by the water would encourage swimming, more.

We wanted to remind everyone that the last Oregon event was really hot, and it's likely to be hot at our June event as well! At past summer events people have beat the heat by swimming in the lake in the swimming area near the barn. Everyone is welcome to swim in the lake with the understanding that you do so at your own risk; Alliance Seattle will not be providing a lifeguard or medical personnel. If you think you might go swimming, remember to bring a towel and shower supplies. The lake is clean, but it's still a lake, so we'd encourage people to take a shower after swimming.

As an additional note, since it will likely be very warm, we're anticipating keeping the amount of combat during the middle of the day fairly light. We won't be officially shutting down monster camp and don't have advance plans for a "No Armor Day" (p.91, "Weather"), but we intend to lean more heavily on the roleplay side of our game, especially during the picnic. We would like to encourage everyone to be involved in the picnic and will be dedicating most of our NPC resources to RP roles at that time. If you'll be NPCing, be sure to keep up to date on the Townie Board! We want everyone to plan accordingly for the weather and to have a good time at the picnic.

I like the idea of mostly holding this down by the lake. How do people feel about maybe starting by the tavern for the main food and side dishes so we avoid bugs in the food, a huge clean-up, and potential liter issues down by the lake, and then have maybe deserts & drinks available by the lake?

I imagine much of this taking place in the open field by the lake, and in the lake itself.

In addition to foods, if anyone has cards or card games that they would like to bring, feel free!

~Emily

So, after a little more discussion with L-A, we have come up with the following plan.

1) We will have the main dishes & side dishes available in the tavern for the first portion of the picnic. Each person will be responsible for cleaning their own serving dishes, but we will provide disposable eating utensils and plates (if you plan on bringing additional disposable eat-ware, please try to select colors that looks as period as possible).

2) We will then move to the lake for desserts. Anyone bringing desserts, please keep in mind that we want to limit clean-up so no one gets stuck cleaning for an hour. Desserts should be easy to eat without the use of a lot of dishes. After browsing Pinterest, I found some suggestions: put little desserts into single-serve portions in small cups (disposable) with a spoon! Cover it with saran wrap to keep out bugs, and voila! All we would need for clean-up is a trash can and a recycling bin.

3) While down by the lake, we will have games & general hanging out in the field & surrounding shade. Swimming in the lake, etc. Whatever you feel like doing, we would love for y'all to come hang out! It'll likely be a couple of degrees cooler by the lake than anywhere else on site!

Overall, only bring down to the lake what you are willing to be responsible for bringing back to your cabin or tavern. Please don't make us clean up after you :-) What do y'all this of this as the plan?

*Edit: please bring desserts, not deserts.

Or, another possible plan:

Everything happens down by the lake! The would be the best option in my opinion, but it would require some volunteers to help with set-up and take down. Ideally, I think about 6 volunteers for set-up, and then another 6 volunteers for take-down. It should go super quickly with that number of volunteers, so no one would be stuck cleaning up for very long. I can't imagine it taking much more than 15 minutes either way. I will be bringing semi-period disposable dishes & silverware, so this should keep clean-up pretty simple.

Please post if you would be willing to volunteer to help with the set-up or the take-down, (or both!).

If we can get enough volunteers, and y'all are alright with it, this will be the new plan!

**Volunteer sign-up has been added to the Original Post

I can help set up :) Also I can bring some drink stuff but can covers/pitchers will likely be needed.

Awesome Seth & Denise, thank you! If people want to bring sodas, I will plan on making a very large batch of normal-soda-sized soda can covers before the event, as well as some more energy-drink-sized covers :-)

I'll join the take down group. Because that's how I roll.

I'll bring the soda!

I'll bring a 12 pack of coke and lemon-lime. Should I bring diet coke as well?

I drink diet, but unless others do as well, I can provide my own.

I will bring a dessert type thing, cookies, cupacakes, or cake of somesort. I can do a sugarfree dessert as well if we have diabetics, just let me know.

I can bring marinated beef and chicken. Do we have a rough estimate of bodies? I want to make sure to bring enough food. I can also make potato salad
