Many of you have had questions about Granny Moseby and her house of stories in the woods. This weekend, myself and 3 others, Tel'rendir, Sam Gemclipper and York, braved her home, and came back with the prize we sought: the Band of Death, which I have in my keeping. However, the information shared with us there seems relevant to all adventurer's so I shall share it here as well, to answer those questions that have been lingering for many.
Granny Moseby has been in this land since before Gavaria was Gavaria and before the Bandbearers had bands. She had a coven of 4 like her and they traveled the lands seeking Knowledge above all else. One day, as they travelled across the plains, something, a gust of wind, a loose rock, or perhaps simply Fate, caused Granny to stumble into the floating stones (what we know to be the Wind Stones, a damaged seal site), causing few to tumble to the ground. Soon after Granny heard a humming from the stones and then a voice (that we know to be SharZal). He offered Granny whatever she desired and she asked for Knowledge above all else. SharZal agreed as long as Granny agreed that her eyes would be his eyes, her ears, his ears.
The world went dark, she and her Coven lost their bodily forms and became as shadow and became the entity we know as The Grasp (for those wondering, Granny was the Thumb). They were granted knowledge of all that is, and all who died came to them, told their stories, and through this the Grasp gained knowledge. As time passed, SharZal's voice faded but Granny grew tired of being his puppet. She abandoned the Grasp and came to our plane and began telling stories to those willing to learn them, giving prizes to those who could tell them as well.
It was in this manner that we gained the Band of Death, willingly given in trade for a story. She lost her immortality by giving the Band up to us, but she called it her penance for starting this so long ago at the Windstones.
I hope this assures all among us that Granny Moseby is not a threat to Gavaria. She is, indeed, a strong ally.
Ever yours, ever green
