The Tale of Pockets
New Acarthia’s adventurers were ready without fear,
At this market gathering, the last one of the year.
They ate a hearty breakfast, prepared by the expert hand
Of the one and only Pockets, the tavern-hand.
They heard that the orcs were enslaving goblins left and right;
Pockets stayed to clean house while the rest went off to fight.
Then she heard some orcs pounding on the door;
She wished she had remembered what they told her so before:
Don’t you know to never split the party.
The healers in the back keep the fighters hale and hearty,
The mages in the middle, where they can shed some light
And you never let that damned rogue out of sight!
The orcs captured her, and with her face so handsome,
They figured they were sure that they could get a princely ransom.
They sent a messenger to the humans to demand
A hefty sum of goods for the return of the tavern-hand.
“Bring her here and then we’ll talk!” “My boss says no way!
If you want us to do that we will charge you extra pay!
We will allow you to send but one man unarmed –“
“We won’t be fooled. We know not to let him come to harm:”
Don’t you know to never split the party.
The healers in the back keep the fighters hale and hearty,
The mages in the middle, where they can shed some light
And you never let that damned rogue out of sight!
The townsfolk paid the ransom, but they were taken aback,
So much that they decided to go back on the attack.
The whole town gathered forces and they set off early night,
To go out and kill the orcs and thus make things right.
“That’s not fair!” the orcs replied. “We thought we had a deal!”
“If we don’t make you pay for this, you’ll make us your next meal!”
Blazing blades and flaming spells dispatched the orcs that night,
But they may be just preparing for a retaliatory strike.
Don’t you know to never split the party.
The healers in the back keep the fighters hale and hearty,
The mages in the middle, where they can shed some light
And you never let that damned rogue out of sight!
