Per the Rulebook: Game Money, Magic Items and Jewelry: You are allowed to take in-game currency. When taking jewelry or an item, always check to make sure it has an Item Number marker on it somewhere. If you are unsure, find a Marshal to double check that the item is in-game. If your Magic Item is stolen, you must immediately head to the Chapter’s designated area and turn over the Magic Item Tag. This is a requirement and may be performed out-of-game. ARB pg 37
This means if they didn't take the item, you still have the item. In an ideal world, tags would be attached to all magic items, but it's just not feasible. Physical possession of the item is king. Next Chicago game, when you pre-reg, in the outstanding tags section, enter the item number that should be written somewhere on the pin so we can search it up and print out a new tag.
