they are the empire...the rebels are looking to overthrow a rather well organized empire....

now granted some of the sith have an "itch" for killing folk but usually they're just trying to keep the peace...its the rebels that keep the fight going...if they'd just learn to obey the rules and go along with things there'd be no war..

SIth lightsabers are red because they use a synthetic crystal which allows for a stronger blade, as apposed to the jedi who use crystals they find in nature that vary in color and include white/silver and blue.

Only one purple light sabre was shown in the movies, the one used by Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson). Supposedly the crystal needed to produce that color blade resonates very close the the energies of the Dark Side, and that has meaning for that character. He was the one who was willing to kill Palpatine in order to stop him. He was pushed to that mental state by using a light sabre with that crystal in it. Over time it subtly affected his mind.

And Yes, I am a geek for knowing that. :ugeek:

I know certain little tidbits here and there, which I am then able to throw out at opportune moments. I couldn't give a guided tour of the STAR WARS universe or anything.

why do they stink inside? nothing stinks when you first cut them open...unless they have musk glands or stink glands...which are usually near their tenders so you don't cut them there...

I repeated this to somebody the other day when I saw a photoshopped picture of Obama with a purple lightsaber. I'm pretty sure it upped my geek cred.

That was the storyline explanation...

The real life reason for Mace having a purple saber was that SLJ had it written into his contract that he'd get a unique saber and he'd get a very cool, on-screen death.
