Understanding pyramid schemes (Spell Slots)

So I have been playing a caster for a little while and am still unclear on some things.

I opted for a wider base in my spell pyramid. I have 6 1st level spells. Since the minimum is 4 to column up is the following possible?:

111111
222222
333333
44444
5555
6666
777
88
9

If the question is worded wrong forgive me.

Perfectly legit tree.

Explain to me why...
1111
2222
3333
4444
5555
6666
77
8
...isn't legal, if you please. Due to my understanding of the rules, that should be fine.

To clarify what JP said...

You have to buy the 4th 6 slot in order purchase the 3rd 7th and on up. The next spell in the first example would be a 7 slot. Ergo, it's legal, as it's normal progression.

quetions then is
1111
2222
3333
4444
5555
6666
7777
8888
9999

legal since the spell tree only gos up to level 9?

There are no spell above level 9. That is a full tree.

And once you have that four column, both of these are legal as well :

11111111
2222222
333333
44444
5555
6666
7777
8888
9999

11111
22222
33333
44444
5555
6666
7777
8888
9999

As you can either opt to continue the pyramid after finishing out a four-column, or to simply buy spells straight up the levels and add columns.

spell pyramids can be confusing, but i like them. once you figure out the formula, it's easy. look at the following chart showing the complete legal progression from 1 level 1 spell, to a full 4 column 9 level pyramid and you should see the pattern.

Spell slots are listed horizontally by level (lvl: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) and each new legal step in the progression is listed vertically after the last:

1

If the question is worded wrong forgive me.

Per page 51 of the ARB, this is a legitimate configuration.

dus this work?

This is legitimate because your previous configuration would have been:

1111
2222
3333
4444
5555
666
77
8

With this, your only choices are to purchase a fourth "6" or a fifth "1".

Adding the fourth "6" is required to get your third "7" which is required for your second "8" which is required for your first "9".

Thanks all. I think I am finally starting to understand. :D
