Waylay: Attacker's weapon 6 inches from contact site?

Not sure exactly where to put this... mostly it's an alert to what I think is a mis-phrase or typo in the rulebook, but also a request for clarification.

Page 69, under "Waylay":
In order for the waylay to be successful, the attacker's weapon must be within 6 inches of the contact point. In other words, you cannot hold your sword by the blade end and waylay someone from a distance.

I assume that it's meant to say "the attacker's hand on the weapon" rather than "the attacker's weapon", seeing as the following paragraph states how Waylay requires the butt end of the weapon to make physical contact with the target...?
 
That's how I've always regarded that phrasing.
