G4 special

Only place you can legally get it is iTunes, for $1.99.

In case you're having troubles locating it, the episode was called "Salvia Wars"

Unfortunately, my copy isn't legally obtained and has the hacker's name all over it.

Nah, it's like sharing songs. Once you download it and pay for it, you can share it with others as long as you don't charge for it.

EDIT: "Sharing with others" means making copies for your friends. It does NOT mean declaring that the entire world consists of your friends and posting it publicly for anyone to download. :D

Really? That seems like a weird stance to take. I've always directed my friends to purchase their own electronic copy of the rulebook, rather than just duping off a copy of the one I bought.

I appreciate that! :D

But since someone made the comment about sharing, I just pointed out what the law was.

The file is a bit big to email, and well, iTunes puts DRM on the file. So, best bet - don't be cheap. Pay the $1.99.

I have it through my Xbox 360 which I think is Zune network. Can't pass that on unfortunately.

I still have it on my TiVo, which I believe means it is possible to download to a computer and forward to someone, but honestly, for the life of me, I haven't got a clue how to do this.

Thank you for that. So, now we have your tacit permission to give away electronic copies of the Alliance Rule Book -- so long as we don't charge for it.

Once again, thank you.

What an interesting legal interpretion. But, you are a lawyer, so I guess you know better than I do.

The mechanics for doing this is pretty simple -- if you have your Tivo on the same local network there is software to run on your personal computer which allows you to view the Playing Now list on your Tivo(s - if you have more than one). For the Windows version, you can download this from the Tivo support site. For Linux, you can find that in Sourceforge.com (I use Tivo for Tiny because I like to download and transcode for watching on my Cowon D2 personal media player).

I hope this helps.

As always, please respect the copyright of the copyright holder. Despite what Mike has been saying, the Fair Use Doctrine under the Millenium Copyright Act does not allow the uncompensated sharing of copyright works between individuals UNLESS THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER GIVES PERMISSION, as Mike has done with the limited sharing with friends of the Alliance Rule Book (thanks again, Mike).

I am not a lawyer, so my opinion is an unqualified one - albeit a well-researched and educated opinion.

Your mileage may differ.

Offer not available in all jurisdictions.

Please consult your legal professional before acting on what has been said here.

It's true though. Don't blame me.

Now, as someone who has books for sale in e-book format, I appreciate it when people buy their own copies instead of sharing. However, I am also aware that they do. I'd be foolish to think that no one ever does.
