I wanted to put this up on the tavern wall before heading back home with Rothsphere. Frankly I heard NUMEROUS questions this past gather and heard even more comments. I wanted to clear up a few things and pose a few questions. I do not want this to turn into some stack of scrawled offenses to either side of this party. I would like people to clearly state their opinions without concern that someone else is going to call them an idiot.
Having said that....
1. I am NOT Sadeen Moorian. I was born in a vardo roaming around the queen's continent.
2. I am NOT human, still Rom last I checked.
3. I was asked by a couple of people "Do you want a life spell if you're dead?" "Do you want magical healing if you're down?" I told you I did not. I realize that this may or may not sound "right" or "correct" to you. I still fear for my life at times and "hide" in a circle of power. I also keep things inside of wards that I want to remain safe. I am trying to live my life without magic. It is EXTREMELY difficult. My family (both blood and adopted) know that I am not going to be angry with them if they use magic on me to heal me. I will not be mad at anyone for saving my life with magic.
I hope that clears a few things up.
Magic vs. Alchemy
I heard a comment this weekend that caused me to pause and consider its meaning. I was commenting on a type of protection circle that should be developed that is made from alchemy perhaps an acid that other creatures could not pass through to get to me. The comment that was made to me was "you realize all that alchemy is just magic" (this is paraphrased I may not have it exactly right.) This caused me to ponder. I was once told by Mistress Keely that earth magic must only ever be used to heal, never for necromancy and then she told me that the earth gives its power to the caster and this power flows through the caster to heal living creatures or destroy undead. Her final words were "Never never never never never use it for necromancy!" This was a good lesson. But let me put it to you this way.
What if the earth does send this very same power in the form of trees, roots, plants, minerals, etc. that can be collected and modified, mixed together to form alchemy that does the same thing? Why would this cause people so much offense?
I feel the offense in people's words from time to time. But honestly...if you dislike Sadeen Moorians simply because they are more learned than you of how to use the earth's resources, I would say take another look.
Perhaps it was their "leader" that you did not like. Perhaps it was their government you disliked. All this has changed.
It cannot be their advancements of alchemy that you dislike because if you are fine with magic, and you say that their alchemy is magic...why do you care that people use it?
Honestly looking to see people respond. Please leave responses here and I will be traveling back to the Hollow at least once every month to meet with familia. I am most anxious to read what you have to say.
