Seattle Three Day: February 2011

I met a bunch of cool people out at the National Event, and quite a few said to me "You know, I've been meaning to make it out to a West Coast game." So many people asked when we were having our next really big event that I forgot who they all were, so I thought that a big post would be the best way to get everyone the information they are looking for. My understanding is that for many chapters, the "Off Season" is the wintertime, while for Oregon and Seattle, summer is the 'off season.' In Seattle, we usually do our season opener/closer as a three day over President's Day weekend, and this next time is no different. I know that travel can be hard to put together, and the earlier you have the information, the better, so I thought an overview post now would be helpful, and more information will be forthcoming as the event gets closer. If you've got more questions, post them, and I'll get as much information out there as I can.

Date: February 18-21, 2011

Location: Millersylvania State Park, Washington
Millersylvania is about 10 minutes south of Olympia (the capitol, so there's plenty of shopping/hotels/etc) and about an hour from the Seattle-Tacoma international Airport. Half or more of our players come from or start in Seattle, so getting rides from the airport should be fairly easy.

Cost:
Pre-Pay and Pre-Reg: $72.50. Payment (mail a check or Paypal to allianceseattle@gmail.com) due by February 4, 2011
Pre-Reg only: $80. All Pre-reg's must be received by February 11, 2011. Pay this at the door.
Late or No Pre-Reg: $90. If you're coming from out of chapter, we still need your character card!
If you're coming from out of chapter and have a valid membership there, we won't charge you membership to play. However, Alliance Seattle does require a local membership to spend Seattle goblin stamps.

Site: Millersylvania State Park ELC Has 12 cabins for reserved for PCs (usually more than enough) that each sleep 8 on bunk beds, all of which have mattresses. (There are 6 more identical cabins for NPCs and modules.) Every cabin is heated, lit, and has electricity. There are real bathrooms on site with showers in the PC area, the NPC area, and near the Tavern. The Tavern is heated, lit, has electricity, and a full cafeteria style kitchen (a little smaller, but with more appliances than, the kitchen at the National Event) with all cookware, flatware, and utensils. Some buildings have ADA access. The site itself is enormous, with many trails, open areas, and even a large, lit barn for covered or nighttime modules.

Items: Alliance Seattle currently allows all Production items and Restricted magic items, as per the Alliance Bylaws. Production Items which cannot be created within the rules as defined in the Alliance Rulebook (Intoxicate Gas, Life potions, etc) or Magic Items that cannot be produced with Rituals available to PCs (immunities, non-standard effects, etc) won't be allowed in. Seattle accepts LCO magic items so long as they're creatable within the ritual system available to PCs, but reserves the right to limit quantities of rituals or items.

I played in Seattle for over ten years before moving east, and it's a great chapter. The camp they use is by far the nicest by way of amenities and accessability of any I've played in 8 different Alliance chapters. I'm already planning to schedule time off and get out for this event (more because I miss all my peeps out there than anything but also cause of the game quality makes it worth the trek) and I know at least one EC group that was already planning to make it also. I hope some of the other great players I met and hung with over the Labor Day weekend will as well!

hmmmm... last time I went out there they were shooting a movie and I race changed an entire race. Oh yeah, and there was a strega. Yeah, gotta be honest, this may just have to happen again.... no pressure by the way to wow me some more :)

Are you kidding me?
Somebody just set the damn bar at "Dracolich."
So, sorry to disappoint, but I'm gonna try to beat that. :D
(And I've got a plan, muwahahaha)
(Hell, I'll settle for "Next best thing to Dracolich" even.)

What's typical Seattle weather in February? Cold and wet?

Ding! We do occasionally get snow. Not too often. Cold and wet are probably good bets. Temps are usually near freezing especially at night around February.

Thanks - I'm working on making it out there but logistics are a bit tough since I'd be going from Seoul to New York to Seattle to Seoul. I can travel light but somehow when I larp I need more crap then when I travel for a month or more and in cold weather it's far worse!

Now, to be fair, when he says 'snow,' he means NW snow. That means there's white on the ground. Sometimes it even sticks around over night. Unlike some parts of the country, if we get more than a quarter of an inch, people freak out. If we get "really really ridiculously bad snow" it's like 3 inches. We usually don't, though.
It will probably drizzle (pack your cloak, and spray it with waterproofing) frequently, and it'll be cold (again, cold for us is below 40, but warm is above 60. That's pretty much the temperature range we do most of the year). Anyways, all of this is why we love our covered mod barn, heated cabins, and big kitchen. If we're lucky it'll 'snow,' that means it's not raining.

I was thinking about traveling to as many chapters as possible.

I'd have to see if I could get anyone to play tour guide in the real world. I wanna see the red woods and the ocean.

any tips for getting a boffer though airport security?

We put ours in a golf bag, and topped the bag with a plastic bag duct taped to the golf bag. No one bothered us about them.

Heck, my shield qualified as my "personal item". It fit through most of the x-ray machines, except once, when they just manually swept over it and asked me if I played LAIRE (from Role Models).

When the Chicago crew went out twice, Ryan Zabawa made a bag for boffers and a bag for shields, that were checked.

Oh dang, it's the Holiday Season! Wouldn't some tickets out to Seattle's big event make someone's Hanuchristmakwanzolstis merry?
(Or, wouldn't it be cheaper to get tickets sooner rather than later for yourself? That sounds like something that you could be merry about, too.)

We're going to be feeding in-game information onto our forums to lead up to this event starting soon (the event isn't that far away), and hopping on to take a look and ask questions would not only help you get more involved, but it'll encourage other folk to talk to each other about what is going on and help build up the excitement.

If you don't have a golf back, buy a hockey stick bag. Then tend to be cheap & will carry up to a 6' weapon.

Holy "This is fast on the approach" Batman!

We just opened up the Pre-pay for this event (which you can also use to Pay-no-Play, if you're so inclined).

Here's the details:
Alliance Seattle's next event is February 18-21, 2011 at Millersylvania State Park. This is a 3-day long event over President's Day weekend.

You may Pre-Pay this event by using Paypal to send $72.50 to allianceseattle@gmail.com. Don't forget to put down your character name. You may Pay-no-Play by sending payment to this address as well. Do not send your pre-registration to this address. Pre-Pay pricing ends February 4th. In order to qualify for the Pre-Pay price (so that you do not owe money at the door), you must also Pre-Register. Pre-Registration must be sent to logistics@alliance-seattle.com by February 11th.

If you Pre-Register by 11th but do not Pre-Pay, your at-the-door price will be $80. If you neither pre-pay nor pre-register the cost at-the-door will be $90.

If you intend to NPC, the cost will be $30 at-the-door if you let plot know you will be attending by February 4th, or $35 at-the-door if you do not. If we receive enough Pre-Pays, NPCing will be free. (This will be announced if it occurs).

NPC Guild, please keep an eye on the NPC Guild Forums, we're already posting plot information there! NPC Guild members are assumed to be attending, please inform us if you are not!
PCs, If you have plot questions or submissions, get them in, the earlier the better! Bond and I are both super busy with real world stuff and are doing a lot of our prep work way in advance of the event since we may not have any "last minute" prep time.

An up-to-date list of pre-pays received can be found here.
