As important as the style is the instrument. A lute is better than a guitar. Bagpipes or harp would be good, too. Mandolin. Hurdy gurdy. Recorder. Wooden flute.
Although I probably won't run into you, I do love "The fox went out on a chilly night". It's more of a folksy song, not so martial or angry, but it's upbeat and very spirited and a lot of fun to sing. One can also dance to it, and pick up the words quickly.
