This isn't a favorites list... this is a thankful list.
So.... before this event started I was so mentally/emotionally checked out that I almost didn't go to the event where one of the Big Bad's was my characters "archvillain"... I even built a disappearing tank in the annex so I'd have someplace to decompress if needed. I came out of this weekend refreshed, revived, and focused. I don't know how you did it, Scott (and NPCs).... but thank you, more than you know.
10 years ago I met this big bad*ss undead hunter with my poor little first level barbar.... There were a lot of strange times in that friendship... and I'm very glad to have been able to be there. Caleb is a top-notch roleplay- so much so you can't always see it, it just rolls so naturally. There's not a lot of people who will shoulder shrug or have their eyes tear up but stop just short of crying if certain trigger words are spoken... and he did it for 36 hours straight. Thank you for coming back, bro. You've been missed.
Thank you to two of the most amazing women in roleplaying- Christine and Michelle. Guys, if you ever want a brain-draining dramatic romantic subplot.. **points at those two** The first private conversation with Gwen when she shows up with her wall up... and suddenly, without knowing it, peeks over the top of it to show me she's still there. Res #1... wake up with Gwen in the room, Ulthoc calls for the court, Ezri walks past her and embraces him- so heartlifting. He looks back up, and Gwen is gone... heartsinking. Fast forward to Sunday. After discussions/overheard things with Gabriel and loves and lifetimes, he finally makes up his mind that he needs to move forward, because now needs to be now, and tells Ezri to give him more information about the elven Handfasting. Michelle I've never seen your eyes do what they did then- priceless. 30 minutes later, ULthoc is being res'd... and Gwen is giving him the only dream she can think of that she knows will pull him back- her standing in his longhouse asking him to come back. Wow... holy crap... Brain hurting... Coming back crying, telling Gwen he'll always love her.... and then overhearing Rowan tell Zat "Ezri just got bit by Lochaber." Ulthoc's first experience of "Catholic Guilt"... in the back of his mind, he's telling himself "That was your fault, in so many ways." Thank you, to both of you, for being on the Broken Train with me. **huge hugs**
Thank you to all the Black and Gold. I'm convinced we don't need a d*mned event. We just need to show up on some random wednesday, decorate the cabin, and sit there in costume and roleplay without monsters or plot or anyone else and we'll still have a great time. You ladies and gentleman are, for me, everything that's best in the game, IG and OOG.
All things Drew, and the private conversations we have every time I ressurect, or every time he needs to ressurect people... It's great watching someone roleplay the draining aspects of that job.
Thank you Kelly for coming down to let us kill you, and dying so incredibly well. I really hope we didn't wail on your too hard... because you were SERIOUSLY hitting buttons. You are amazing and a half.
Scott- thank you. Thank you for Lochaber, thank you for Threy (not pictured in this scene), thank you for ten freaking years of making me want to keep coming back. I think Dee is probably the only person who really knows just how much you do, how much you put into it, and how much you just don't quit even when you probably should.
I don't know what it was with my eyes and their need to swallow packets this event, but thank you Cortni for being their with your mad skills. After the third time I caught a packet in the left eye, I seriously thought about putting on an eyepatch for safety reasons. Then you and Christine making sure I still have my leet tumbling skilz. To report, no discoloration or swelling, and this morning everything is back to base condition. Thank you for being there.
Thank you to all the Romplayers.... you guys make me want to write more plot for you. All the time. Just so everybody knows, this month I got nearly the exact same response from four people- "Ugh! you are awesome and I hate you!" followed by a hug. That's good writing. That's good friends. I love you all. Hope you enjoy the ride.
Thank you to Dee and Emily and Kris. Not everyone can pull off "feminine" and "freaking brutal" at the same time... you ladies make it look easy. You make it easier for me to roleplay my race and my character with how well you do yours. Thank you to each of you for the stolen moments of intense one-on-one roleplays.
The Blythedale boys- Toddy, Danny, and Kyle(y) It's always a blast to roleplay with you guys, and I love those moments that you can't expect: Ithica describing Lochaber, and realizing he's getting a death gaze from Ulthoc. Daniel looking over and seeing my getting a massage from three beautiful Romani women (one of which he's working on a subplot with), and giving me back the death gaze. The solid "blacksmith bromance" with Grim... and the two of us doublechecking on each other's love lives.
To my Philly Crew, and the neverending chorus of "thank you for introducing me to this" I get every Sunday night. You guys rmeind me what it is to experience this stuff with a fresh (instead of experienced and jaded) mind.... thank you.
Next month is Ulthoc's tenth Anniversary, along with mine. I built that dude expecting him to be dead by level 12. In fact, we used to tell people "don't play a Barbar if you want to still be playing the same character 3 years from now." It's strange watching him go from "supporting role" to "living legend" and all the heartbreak and drama and fury that goes with doing this character for nearly 100 events. Full Tilt, never back down- the Barbar way. I've been getting really lucky with those 10% and 20% pulls. His saga is long, and proud... but just like Beowulf and Siegfried before him, his too will end.
Thank you to every player and every npc along the way- thank you for being a part of my story, and thank you for allowing me to be part of yours.
Lay on!
