Town Guard or local militia

Is there local militia or town guard in these lands? I would like offer my services. Any information would be most appreciated.

I could be wrong, But I believe while at the current outpost/gathering place you will only find soldiers and Nobility aside from a fair share of adventurers/citizens. We are pressed against the very borders of the contested lands, war is a stone's throw away. Seek out one of our Nobles, I'm sure ANY aid or "services" of good will are more then welcomed at such dark times. If you cannot find one of our nobles, feel free to seek me out I shall do my best to aid you in your search.

Or you could join the ranks of Duke's army, great training, good food, and the company of brave men and women who fight for a noble and true cause. Seek us out and we can point you in the right direction. Its not too hard to find us, look for the red and white.

Goodman Adon,

Your offer of services in protecting our fledgling town of Fairdale is inspiring. I am unaware of whether or not you've traveled here before, but as Lt. Ithica so accurately addressed, the citizenry here is well protected by not only nobles, soldiers, but the blades and magics of numerous courageous adventurers of varying skill. We all do our own part to guard the roads, patrol the borders, and strike out into the Contested Lands, keeping old enemies in check and ourselves aware of any new dangers that might come to threaten our good people. With our without a formal town guard, we could certainly benefit from one more brave soul such as yours. May you find your travels safe.

I am not familiar with the lands of Icenia. I am a native morian. I am unsure of how to travel to those lands by boat or ground, although I see strange mists more and more these days. I have so many questions I would like to ask about joining the military or a civil peace organization, is there anyone I can be referred to about this matter? Any information would be most appreciated.

Knights and solders BAH

Mercenaries is the life for you!
High pay the best food and a freedom in battle that no knight can know!
Hire on a Ship and see the world venture to distant lands and ride the waves of adventure!

but if you want to be totally restricted by a ridged code that makes you more dull then a Stone elf or you want to be ordered around
by some dim witted Sergeant of the Militia who tends crops all week and on weekends plays the commander then become a knight or join the militia

Some of us, normally of more respectible repute, enjoy keeping the safety of the town by joining already honorable ranks. I was a town guard in Death's Watch, but it is true here that we are defending the lands with our very presence this time. Little needs to be done, I believe, other than what we already do.

As far as I know, there is no town guard, because the town is so new and only recently were the first buildings even constructed after holding off the enemy on the front lines for a time.

However, the ducal army is ever present and I am sure you would be able to meet with one of their ranks to discuss your desire to join if you arrive in Fairdale. Look for anyone in Red and White quartered tabbards, they are probably in the army.

Respectable Respectable!!!

You confuse the word Mercenary with that of brigand or rouge
a respectable mercenary fights for his employer and is loyal to his employer just as any Solder dose!
borders change loyalties change a one day friend can backstab you and take your land at the drop of a hat but a good mercenary is loyal to his employer!

A Brigand who once paid changes sides will not find a new employer but a honest mercenary can always find work!
A good mercenary can find himself hired by Knight baron and king and they know he will be loyal until the end of his contract while a ill spoken word a dropped fork or the lust of a nobles wife can turn a Nobles loyal support to a long drawn out war!

Do not confuse or assume that a mercenary is not trustworthy or dishonest
we work for pay yes like most other honest foke but us good ones are loyal honest adn true!

I know I've always found that a good way to make myself look hireable to prospective employers was to make thinly vieled accusations against their persons.

Adon,
Feel free to seek me out, I shall do my best to share with you the structure of organizations, Baronies, and military. As well as the "whats currently going on". Perhaps this knowledge will aid you in the steps you wish to take. I look forward to meeting your aquaintance and perhaps sharing some good conversation.

Bowin: "but if you want to be totally restricted by a ridged code that makes you more dull then a Stone elf or you want to be ordered around

This is your view and your opinion, though I feel it to be wrong and on the border line of insulting. Perhaps you should choose your words more carefully in the future.

Bowin,

Do you feel I am restricted by a rigid code? I am more "dull" than a stone elf?

I have gladly tended my peoples crops, helped birthed their cattle and midwifed their children. I also willingly go to the front lines and fight and bleed for their freedom.

My service is no smaller and no greater than the farmer who tends his crops so the armies can eat while they protect his right to farm.

We are all in service to something nobler than ourselves. We are in service to each other, in our own way. Do not belittle that service.

Regards

Bowin,
While the life of ebing a mercenary is indeed enticing and high paying, I always found satisfaction in serving for the greater purpose of the commoner. My dad was a leader of his troops and instilled the teachings of discipline, hard work and honor upon myself and his troops.

Ithica,
I would be honored by someone of your rank to share a drink and discuss the various systems of the lands you're from.

Nathan,
I just happen to loooooooveee red and white, so Im already getting the feeling that I would enjoy the ducal army. Do you have to be a native citizen of the land to join or to move up in ranks? What is the protocols when addressing a noble in your land?

Wow I have so many questions to ask, how would one get to your lands? Is there going to be a new gathering of adventurers anytime soon?

Adon

Goodman Adon,

There will be a gathering of adventures in three weeks time. The ducal army is an excellent group of brave individuals. I have known many of their ranks who I admire and would fight and die beside. Though I cannot answer much about the rules and regulations of the Icenian Army, having never served. I am glad to see your willingness to fight! Generally when addressing a noble in our lands you first kneel until recognized. Barons are addressed as 'your excellency', the Duke as 'your grace', and knights as 'lord' or 'lady'. I hope this helps some.

Bowin,

I find your words of the Army and Nobles insulting. I am wondering where you met a Sergeant who tends crops during the week and then pretends at commander on the weekends. I know of no such man or woman here. Every army soldier I have met has been self-sacrificing, intelligent, and honorable. I also a bit shocked that you find the Nobles who follow the Code of Chivalry dull as stone elves, I believe you put it. First of all, because a stone elf does not show emotion does not make him dull or two dimensional. My time with Telokh and Ren have been incredibly enlightening and I would not trade it for anything. Secondly, the code of chivalry, while it may be "restricting", makes its followers people of high character, trustworthy, and brave. To say that they are dull without considering all the work they do, the fights they bleed and die in for all of us and those who cannot defend themselves, is a grave insult. Perhaps you should get to know the people and the lands you insult before you do so.

In my service, Bowin has performed his services with dedication and quite admirably.

I hope that the time he spends with Nordenn will show him a different light on Nobility and the Code to which we follow.

And spending time with Ren to allow him a deeper understanding of Stone elven culture.

Do not judge him harshly. Simply help show him what we have already come to know.

Lady Knight Glorianna Wyndancer Nordenn

Lady Knight,

I did not question Bowin's actions; I would not judge him on matters I had not seen for myself. Though I could not stand by and hear the things that were said about our Nobles and our army without feeling slighted myself. I apologize, I allowed my ire to get the better of me. If you feel I was too harsh I will make amends in whatever matter is appropriate.

I spoke in generality of what I have seen in travels far and wide and not of any one person or any one action
if some one thinks that my comments were about them directly and that they are the like that then ...

Bowin

In order to have a town guard, you bloody well need a town first.

Fairdale is basically a small outpost. His Grace has meetings there with his nobles every month or so in the good weather, and it's pretty much empty during other times. New buildings are being added, and the abandoned dwarven fort is being refurbished, so perhaps in the future some merchants may deem to relocate there (other than Skirfir, who runs the tavern). The Guild leaders (Zatarina and myself) usually travel back to Ashbury city in the offtimes.

So for now, it's a pretty desolate place.

Wizard Aloysius

I believe Bowin was speaking of a common militia, the likes of which are usually not well trained and can indeed come from local farmlands or other similar walks of life. I do not believe he was speaking of the Ducal army or any formal, well-trained fighting force.

In Saribdis all are ready to defend their homes at a moment's notice if need be. The entire country is, in effect, what an army would be in other lands. When the threat ends, many do go back to their farming. You will find, however, that they are not, like militias in some lands, untrained.

Bowin is not experienced as an adventurer and no doubt brings preconceived notions of the world with him. He is learning and we are here to help him on his way. Let the Lady Knight's words be a guide to dealing with those, like Bowin, who have recently left their homes for the first time. We are here to illumate his path.
